Trump says Mexico's president has 'agreed to stop' illegal migrants crossing into America

T-minus 72 hours to it coming out that the call never happened and/or Mexico’s President agreed to no such thing.
This is the correct answer. To the OP... don't you people ever get tired of being duped by this clown? I didn't think so.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has appeared to contradict President-elect Donald Trump’s claim that the two have struck a deal to stop migration to the US border.

[. . .]

“Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately,” he wrote.

Sheinbaum later went back on X to say that she had “explained to him [Trump] the comprehensive strategy that Mexico has followed to address the migration phenomenon, respecting human rights”.

“We reiterate that Mexico's position is not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and between peoples,” she added.

Thanks for the clarification. what a shocker. Trump caught lying once again. Just think, we have 4 more years of this crap.

Biden could have done the same. But……….. 🤷‍♂️

More Trump lies:

What it appears Mexico’s new President stated was she’d continue the programs and policies in place that they believe have already had an impact on individuals attempting to use Mexico to gain access to the United States.

Nothing new. No change induced by Trump threats. Just Trump pretending he’s saved the day, again. More Trump make believe that most reasonable people realize are lies. His cult members, of course, believe what Dear Leader says without fact checking it.

I am not a MAGA man, but I will give credit where credit is due. It is not stupid to use economics to enforce other political objectives. If MAGA Jesus can actually get Mexico and other countries to meaningful interdict the flow of migrants northward to the extent that it noticeably mitigates border crossings, that puts less pressure on him to do the dirty work of mass incarcerations and deportations.

I already know I'm going to be accused of being a secret MAGA. I am not. But I am going to note that tariffs can be used strategically as statecraft.
He said the same thing during his first term.

The idea of Tariffs being used strateically is also specious. In a perfect situation yes. That situation being a nation that has few other choices but to trade with us and the goods they are trading are from native industries. A lot of what Mexico sells us is from US industries that have off-shored. Its unclear how tarrifing the Ford plant in Mexicali hurts the Mexican state. I’m sure it does...somehow but the idea that Mexico would be brought to it’s knees by these tariffs is rather silly. Meanwhile, very few nations have plants here that export goods out of our market--Nissan builds stuff here to be sold here. I”m sure there are some items leaving our shore but most of it stays home.. The retaliatory tariff will be (as was proven by the first Trump administration) on US industries. So we’re going to have to bail out our own folks again.

I think she's agreeing to do something that she has been doing all along.
Sheinbaum hasnt been pressed with streams of migrants.. just a few migrants..a group of 200 unaccompanied minors and single men at some CA border for instance. The migrants were looking to surrender to CPB as well.

This will all change/end when the migrant midnight flights to our interior and phone Aps that are 'pre-cleared' ( at what level however?)
are terminated
With ports of entry and flights shut down, the pressure from migrants to get into Mexico so they can get into the USA increases exponentially
She's a socialist/nationalist and is going to face domestic pressure to buck the USA and allow he migrants to pass thru
At that point it's CBP's move. Do they arrest and simply return them over the border? put them in detention camps for due process and expulsion?

Both leaders obviously benefit from prior planning out contingencies, as it appears to be happening. The game is on

How about reading the damn article. Trump's tariffs didn't do shit. Just more bs from this asshole.

How about you actually wait until January 2025 when we will actually know what the true terms of the agreement mean. Or if there's any agreement at all for that matter.

The long term effects on our politics will be that going forward, you needn’t be successful; just claim success and your supporters will believe you’re a success.

He said the same thing during his first term.

He didn't have a particularly sympathetic cabinet. It's different now. The so-called 'adults' are no longer in the room. I'm going to say this over and over again: do not expect 2.0 to be anything remotely like 1.0. Trump has the ideologues and loyalists around him to carry more of what he desires into effect.

The idea of Tariffs being used strateically is also specious.

Except it's not. We used tariffs strategically in the past. In fact, we still use ag subsidies in the same sense and we used strategic tariffs until, say, the 1970s. The "replacement" was neoliberalism, which basically gutted Manufacturing Middle America USA.

Ms. Sheinbaum said earlier on Wednesday, “If there are U.S. tariffs, Mexico would also raise tariffs” — making clear her stance on Mexico’s potential response.

Senior officials in her government and leading figures in Mexico’s governing party, Morena, also expressed support for retaliatory tariffs. Mexico’s economy minister, Marcelo Ebrard, said that about 400,000 jobs could be lost in the United States if Mr. Trump imposed the tariffs, calling the measure a “shot in the foot” while speaking alongside Ms. Sheinbaum at a morning news conference.

Mexico’s president did not refer to tariffs, or trade tensions in general, in her post about her conversation with Mr. Trump. Instead, she said she and Mr. Trump had “discussed strengthening collaboration on security issues within the framework of our sovereignty and the campaign we are conducting in Mexico to prevent fentanyl consumption.”

The long term effects on our politics will be that going forward, you needn’t be successful; just claim success and your supporters will believe you’re a success.

It’s avoidable. Just fact check everyone. Trust but verify.

Here was the story in 2019:

The tide wasn’t significanty stemmed.

The strategy worked so well that we not only subsidized our farmers, we bailed them out twice in Trump’s first term.

Leadership. No more needs to be said.

President-elect Trump said he spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, saying she has agreed to "stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States" following threats this week to significantly tariff goods from coming into the U.S. from its southern neighbor.

Trump vowed to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada if both nations failed to do more to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs into the U.S. Sheinbaum, who recently took office, said on Wednesday that Mexico would retaliate if Trump followed through on his promise.

That’s interesting. Because other outlets are saying that Mexico is threatening retaliation. But I don’t know. I suppose Trump might be telling the truth for once.

To add to that....................

..........................they're having an emergency meeting in Canada regarding the tariff threat!

Ontario Premier Ford urges Trudeau to do something to secure our borders. I'm sure other Premiers would do the same.
Border security is a no-brainer.

It would help Canada too.

The OP being duped by Donald likely is a badge of pride for him. Personally think it’s weird for a person to go to sleep thinking “omg Donald so totally owned me today!” with a smile, but most MAGA appear to be submissive so perhaps this is some sort of kink.

Trump says Mexico's president has 'agreed to stop' illegal migrants crossing into America

Hey, that was quick. Now just two more phone calls and the wars in Ukraine and Gaza can be over long before Christmas. After all, Trump told us that's all it would take from him "on day one". Why wait any longer with so many lives at stake?

It just shows that TDS does not cloud your objectivity.(y)

Donald promised an end to the Ukraine war within 24 hours of his election, so at this point he’s quite a bit past due. He’s earning a F on Ukraine thus far.

Mexican president is smart just tell Trumo whatever he wants to hear and he goes away you dont even have to actually do anything
Easiest person in the world to manipulate.
