They could use the 'guests' as the labor for whatever work was required to revamp its ability to keep them in where they belong. I'm sure the 10 cents an hour they'll be paid will be greatly appreciated.

That it would cost too much to feed them because Alcatraz is an island seems ludicrous on its face. Even more ludicrous when analyzed. It's just a few minutes' boat ride from Fisherman's Wharf, SF, to Alcatraz - just one mile. San Quentin is further than that, and nobody's whining about the cost to send food there.

Of course, there's the one unavoidable reason to oppose re-opening Alcatraz. ORANGE MAN BAD!!!!!

The problem is it causes chaos, unnecessary distraction , expense and turmoil. It is not a mature or responsible approach to governance. It just isn't.

It would be cheaper and quicker to build a new prison and it would have the benefit of not being a rat infested sithole that will likely get condemned by the UN as a US gulag.

Trump does NOTHING that doesn’t directly benefit Trump. EVERYTHING Trump does is transactional.

If Trump is going to open Alcatraz there are three primary reasons.

1. There’s something of value in it for Trump. There is a deal somewhere where money or property or both will make its way to Trump. That is a given. Is America begging for Alcatraz to re-open? No, though now on cue MAGA sheep will do as they are directed and will be all excited about it.

2. It is a way for Trump to stick it to Newsome and California.

3. It works like feeding raw meat to the police state Nazis and the MAGA fascists. Fear is a huge motivator for MAGAs and to them it should be used on everyone.
 
I still want to know how they'd expand Alcatraz.

Europeans have strange ideas on what “inhumane” means in the context of prisoners. Anything less than a luxury apartment with all the trimmings is “inhumane” to you guys. I’ll say this for you, you’ve come a long way from the Tower.
