That is a stretch. The idea that somebody innocently and seriously, after the melee outside, just walked in out of innocence and curiosity, through the broken glass, amid all the out-of-control mayhem that was going on with weirdos running amok, and thought they were within the law to be a part of that crowd is just too much to swallow.
There were plenty of barriers saying "Do Not Cross. Police Line" which had been toppled and were laying strewn all about the grounds after the battle outside. Someone would have to walk past all of that to "innocently walk in." They would have to know they were doing wrong to negotiate past the wreckage of those barriers to ever even get to the doors.
No. There were no innocent citizens who walked in thinking it was perfectly OK. They were part of the insurrection simply be being there in that lawless crowd whether they fought with police or did any damage themselves or not. simply being there was a crime.
You can fool yourself on this, but you're not fooling anybody else. It's amazing that after all these years we still have to even have this kind of discussion. The insurrection is history.
"The 117th Congress passed and President Joe Biden signed legislation related to the Capitol attack, including the Capitol Police Emergency Assistance Act of 2021, the Electoral Reform Act, and a bill granting awards to Capitol Police officers for their bravery during the insurrection."
