Trump Officials Blame Mistake for Setting Off Confrontation With Harvard (1 Viewer)

How could they manage to make of themselves an even more idiotic Keystone Cops comedy show.

This is so sad to watch from outside the circus tent. I cannot imagine the "teeth grinding" apoplexy those Americans actually caring for their county's welfare and respect must be going through.

Harvard University received an emailed letter from the Trump administration last Friday that included a series of demands about hiring, admissions and curriculum so onerous that school officials decided they had no choice but to take on the White House.

The university announced its intentions on Monday, setting off a tectonic battle between one of the country’s most prestigious universities and a U.S. president. Then, almost immediately, came a frantic call from a Trump official.

The April 11 letter from the White House’s task force on antisemitism, this official told Harvard, should not have been sent and was “unauthorized,” two people familiar with the matter said.

A senior White House official said the administration stood by the letter, calling the university’s decision to publicly rebuff the administration overblown and blaming Harvard for not continuing discussions.

...“It was malpractice on the side of Harvard’s lawyers not to pick up the phone and call the members of the antisemitism task force who they had been talking to for weeks,” said May Mailman, the White House senior policy strategist. “Instead, Harvard went on a victimhood campaign.”

Why would you even admit to such a bone headed move?

This malignant clown show needs a do-over.

Yeah I don't believe it. If this were true then why did they double down with reactionary threats of punishments like removing billions and sicking the IRS on them and their tax free status?

If you are in government employ and are perceived to be rowing in the wrong direction……..

Following my Day One Executive Order, the Office of Personnel Management will be issuing new Civil Service Regulations for career government employees. Moving forward, career government employees, working on policy matters, will be classified as “Schedule Policy/Career,” and will be held to the highest standards of conduct and performance. If these government workers refuse to advance the policy interests of the President, or are engaging in corrupt behavior, they should no longer have a job. This is common sense, and will allow the federal government to finally be “run like a business.” We must root out corruption and implement accountability in our Federal Workforce!

Run like a casino?
All Hail The Donald! The king of executive orders.

They can't get anything right, I don't think there's anyone in the white house who's smart enough to think for them.
He hires nothing but the most unqualified idiots, much like himself.

Odd how these threads are getting less and less MAGA participation.

Could it be because

The administration seems to think this whole doubling down on dumb is a good idea, but I'm not sure how they're arriving at that conclusion since it's blowing up in their faces. The only way it makes sense is if they're only concerned about how it goes over with their base, but we already know they would support Donnie Boy if he shot someone on 5th Avenue.
😉

So threatening letters to Harvard are now like tariffs. Just fire out whatever stupid thought might be in Trumps head, then pick up the pieces later after the stupidity is exposed. After that, go into full denial mode and blame the 'other guy' for misinterpreting what you said to them, and not understanding that they all those threats are just foreplay prior to negotiations.
They were obviously hoping Harvard would either capitulate like Columbia or be beligerent right from the get-go. When they weren't, the threats began. When the blowback resulted and Harvard was seen as being bullied, the WH went into denial mode saying it was unauthorized and 'a mistake.'

So basically, the Trump administration tried to send a roughneck email to Harvard and the response from the WH lawyers was "You said what!?!?!!"
No, they just didn't anticipate the blowback. It is similar to the fiasco back during the 2016 campaign when it was discovered that Trump campaign officials, including Don Jr., were meeting with Russians:

"There was no meeting."
"OK, there was a meeting, but it was about adopting Russian babies'."
"Alright, it wasn't about babies. It was about getting dirt on Hillary."
"It's OK, because we didn't get any dirt on Hillary."

In other words, the lies and excuses will evolve over time.

Didn't you ever see "The Godfather?"
"Either your signature or your brains are going to be on that contract."
This is how you negotiate.

That's just their reflexive, knee jerk, reaction to everything so it's hard to tell.

What they were probably expecting is to send that second letter later to ratchet up the threats but didn't expect Harvard to just go ahead and openly defy them.

This looks like a face saving maneuver.

Trump doubled down because Harvard agreed to talk originally. He takes that as weakness, and his goal is total control. It was always the plan.

Americans citizens are now also getting threaten letters asking them to leave the US.

So, they're not only malicious and vindictive sacks of shit, but also incompetent, malicious and vindictive sacks of shit that double down on what their incompetence brings about because they are too narcissistic and arrogant to back off their **** ups.

I doubt this was a mistake, it's them trying to save face as Harvard came out hard swinging back at them.
