Trump official floats privatizing Social Security​


Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested Wednesday that a newly created children's savings program may serve as a pathway to privatizing Social Security.

Speaking at a forum hosted by conservative news outlet Breitbart, Bessent said the program, established under the former president's sweeping tax cuts and spending law, could act "in a way, [as] a backdoor for privatizing Social Security." (Breitbart is propaganda and lies and has ZERO credibility).

Yup. The orange child rapist's buddies want to privatize social security. That way they can steal it.

 
Oh, private, just great.... 'cause we need a profit-motive jammed in there. The same profit motive that makes American health care worse than other civilized nations..... unless you have loads of cash, in which case it can be the best. (Hell, you don't even need to ban cash payments for self-appointed super-docs that operate outside of a single-payer system. You just need the single payer system to make it work better for everyone else).

Back in my more Libertarian days I was all for the privatization of Social Security but then the economy collapsed in 2008 and then I spent a good amount of time and effort learning about how Wall Street works and there is no way that that group of sociopaths should have access to that much money.

No details, as expected. If it was along the lines of what Bush proposed with 2% being “privatized” and each person could pick their investments, I could probably get behind it, depending on the details.

No it isn’t.

They’ll point to the gains on whatever those accounts are and say “see, when these people are XYZ, it will be $X amount. Private is better!”

Those kids don’t have money. Investors do.

They aren’t getting checks, investors are.

With the promise that some day, those kids will get money…maybe.
