Trump nominates Fox News host, veteran Pete Hegseth for secretary of defense

No. I expect a 4-year whinefest.
Oh, most assuredly you'll get that.

Unfortunately, the nation will also get this:

A sprawling network of Democratic officials, progressive activists, watchdog groups and ex-Republicans has been taking extraordinary steps to prepare for a potential second Trump presidency, drawn together by the fear that Mr. Trump’s return to power would pose a grave threat not just to their agenda but to American democracy itself.
. . .
But the early timing, volume and scale of the planning underway to push back against a potential second Trump administration are without precedent. The loose-knit coalition is determined not to be caught flat-footed, as many were after his unexpected victory in 2016.

Its the bureaucratic DC swamp and entrenched DC power brokers' version of election denial, and is denigrating and degrading the US institutions on which the country is founded and relies on.
This is their version of 'Saving Democracy'? What utter bullshit of a claim.

You act as if you will not be whining with every other American. I give it 6 months from now and people with a brain will be fighting fascism instead of whining about it.
The sky will not be falling on Americans.
Maybe that sounds like unbridled optimism.
But that is my hope and expectation.
That is mostly what Americans are feeling right now.

Reckless?

Not really. Once again I am glad that Trump is appointing non-swamp people to positions where they can help supervise clearing out parts of the swamp.

He may currently be a news commentator, but he is also an Army veteran, a combat veteran, served as an Army Major, and wounded in action losing both his legs below the knees.

He is also a good pick because he was NOT a "General Grade" Officer.

As we have seen from the various members of the General Staff, they are all politicians. More interested in personal public and political advancement than doing their best for their personnel. They've demonstrated having bought into the DEI politics and undermined the effectiveness of the various military branches.

Hegseth will serve and he will do it honorably and honestly, and I for one hope he helps Trump clean out the General Staff of those self-serving and otherwise worthless political Generals.
You've confused him with Joey Jones, also an honorable man. Pete is a great pick of the "non-swamp" type.

Being this is his country and not yours, his opinion is a hell of a lot more relevant than some liberal Brit from across the pond.

Amen.
Some of the foreigners who post to this forum have that all-inclusive leftist global mindset.
New sheriff in town. :ROFLMAO:

One additional comment. Not sure why anyone is having a snit fit over Hegseth. He was nominated. He still has to be confirmed by our Senate. It will all come out in the wash. No worries.

Glad you think so.
"Peace through strength" should be our watch words.

They already are. But Trump is going to change our watchwords to “Loyalty to Der Fuhrer above all”.

So no executive experience in government then; just like Trump-and look what a disaster his last bunch of "best people" turned out to be. Trump picks according to loyalty or nepotism and how nicely the chosen ones have spoken of him, not for their ability or experience in a specific role. This is not news, but is a recipe for failure. Just like the last time.

The Drumpf graduated from Wharton. ;)
"Donald Trump was the dumbest goddam student I ever had" Reported quote from a Wharton professor.

Do you really think that will stop their hair pulling?

I guess you’re telling us that no one should be concerned that Trump wants a yes man with no experience to lead DoD.

I'm sure that your fondest hope is that all the Trump picks will fail. Not sure why you care so much from across the pond, but I guess we will all have to wait and see who is confirmed (Pete H. will need a Congressional waiver, I think).

Your opinion is that this is what Trump wants. My guess is that your hope is for failure, but my hope is for a new broom that sweeps clean.

Two Bronze Stars.
That means "he deployed as an officer".

No CIB. No Tab. No CAR. No V. I've got more deployments - including Iraq and Afghanistan across almost 18 years - than this guy, and, I shouldn't be SECDEF.

Non-hyperbolically, at my previous place of employment, I could have swung a jump rope around me and hit 3-4 people more qualified than this guy...

...and they shouldn't have been SECDEF, either. :(

This is a bad pick. I sincerely hope it's a false flag to give them something to shoot down, or that the Senate grows a backbone and says "No", just as they did to W Bush when he tried to appoint his friend Harriet Meirs to SCOTUS (after which, we got Alito, who turned out well).
