(CNN)Donald Trump believes he would "absolutely" be a force for bipartisanship, but in an interview this weekend neither Republicans nor Democrats escaped a barrage of attacks from the GOP presidential candidate.

Trump flung criticism at politicians spanning the spectrum from presidential primary opponents Jeb Bush and Ben Carson to the Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and the man he hopes to succeed, President Barack Obama, in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper that aired Sunday on "State of the Union."

And he lamented the House Select Committee on Benghazi's questioning of Clinton, a hearing he called "very partisan" that "hurts both parties" and "hurts the country."
"The level of hatred between Republicans and Democrats was unbelievable. The level of -- I've never seen anything like it," Trump said. "I'm going to unify. This country is totally divided. Barack Obama has divided this country unbelievably. And it's all, it's all hatred, what can I tell you. I've never seen anything like it...I've gotten along with Democrats and I've gotten along with Republicans. And I said, that's a good thing."
Tapper asked Trump if his presidency would result in an era of bipartisanship.
"I absolutely think so," he said, adding, "I will be a great unifier for our country."

I'm sorry, but this is the funniest ****ing thing I have heard in a while. Obviously he's a unifier. I love the way he has united the republicans,.

I love his comment about "ending the unbelievable hate between the parties" yeah by redirecting it all at him :lamo

This is funny. He has already alienated Mexican Americans, Latinos, and everybody with commonsense. I can't imagine how he is going to bring brown people who aren't rapist and drug dealers back into the fold.

I agree with everything he said, except for 2 statements

"I'm going to unify"
and
"I will be a great unifier for our country"

Trump has firmly established -- once and for all -- that an ugly streak of racism and ignorance runs through the modern conservative base. It's not a figment of liberals' imaginations, which is what we've been told for decades.

oh cool.. I didn't know we could use a candidates words to paint an entire political base as racist or ignorant..... this is gonna be a fun election cycle.

Trump has the majority of the support amongst conservatives. Carson is a close second. Understand?

of course I understand....anything trump says can be used to denigrate the entire Republican base... and anything Hillary or Bernie says can be used to denigrate the entire Democratic base...

that about sum it up?... or did you have something different in mind?

That's not what I said at all. I said that 'an ugly streak of racism and ignorance runs through the modern conservative base'. You don't have to translate what I said. My statement can stand on its own, and is supported by reality.

you used Trump, and his poll numbers ,as proof of your charge of racism and ignorance....

so all we need to do is levy a charge on the democratic base, back it up with a major democratic candidates words.. and we'll have proven that charge.

that's the standard you're operating on, that's the standard we'll use.

it'll be fun... and in your estimation, accurate.

he seems stupidier than junior.imagine!

Trump has a plurality of votes among voters in the Republican primary. i don't know many conservatives that actually like him. 27% is hardly a "majority"

neither junior nor Trump are stupid.

There are many different kinds of stupid as there are many forms of intelligence. Both are stupid in certain things.

One thing this thread points out is that there is significant fear of Trump among the liberals.

Guys, he is a Hillary plant. His job is to suck votes away from the republican party.

That's why he is making these kinds of comments.

He is not serious about being president.

You have ben forewarned.

He is not just a candidate. He is leading in the polls.

Are you not concerned about the racism Trump is pandering too? It should be of concern to everybody. I understand you're conservative, and not all conservatives are racist, but Trump's candidacy says a lot about the growing racist elements in the US. It's nothing personal about YOU.

No, I dont understand. If Carson is 'a close second,' how does that show "an ugly streak of racism and ignorance runs through the modern conservative base." Carson, who happens to be black by the way, has more conservative support than does Trump. And if you really paid attention, which you don't, you would know that there is nothing conservative about Trump or his positions. He is a hodge-podge populist, who is more left than right. So if he is a racist, hes your racist.
