I seriously doubt that Trump will skip the debate. Trump is far too obsessed with publicity than to do that.
What he is doing is laying the groundwork to claim "Fake news", "Biased network", "Trump-hating Moderators" as his excuse for when he loses the debate. After all, Trump knows that he can feed his MAGA morons the biggest line of crap there is and they will simply swallow it without question.

Trump specifically told us that he attacks credible networks/journalists/pundits, so that when they talk about about him, fewer people believe them.
He's definitely laying that groundwork as you note...so that in the event he does bad, he's got an excuse.
Same shit, different day. That MAGA puts up with this, is, and all the other nonsense is unfortunate for America.

He will bow out. I was suprised he showed up for the Biden debate. Not that it mattered. Not only did he not answer a question all night, he rarely even stayed on the topic of the question.

Trump has no policy, he has talking points and complaints. There are no topics that he has a real understanding of. He likes to speak in broad generalities.

A Trump / Harris debate will bring big ratings. Many people will be seeing and evaluating Harris for the first time. They will be curious to see how Harris does at such an event.

I don't think Trump will want to risk the embarrassment he will feel when he is exposed in front of a large T.V. audience.

Trump is a salesman, he is always trying to sell himself. He does it by either bragging about how good he is, or by denegrating opponents to try to make himself look good in comparison.
The Schtick is getting old and boring. It worked in 2016, barely, but now it sounds old and tired. His base still like it, but even they would like him to mix in some new ideas with the rhetoric.
His rallys are getting boring and repetitive. That is why his crowds keep getting smaller, and they are leaving early and the people on stage look like they just wish the evening was over.

Just more Trump talking out of both sides of his mouth on every issue:

He will debate her on September 10; he won’t debate her on September 10.

He’s “called it” either way, so he’s “covered” no matter the result.

It is not that far away, we'll see very soon if Trump runs away from it.

The MAGA dumbasses still don't understand that "I love the uneducated" was NOT a compliment from Trump.

I can see Trump looking for some excuse to back out. Like some recent development or news centered around ABC he can latch onto as an excuse to make it look like it wasn't just cold feet/cowardice.

Perhaps this below may provide some insight into Trump's actions:

Trump’s team, according to the source, would like for the microphones to be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak, as was the case during the first debate with President Joe Biden.
The Harris campaign, however, is requesting that ABC and other networks seeking to host a potential October debate keep microphones on, according to a senior campaign official, marking a change from the June debate when the then-Biden campaign wanted microphones muted except when it was a candidate’s turn to speak.
“We have told ABC and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast,” Brian Fallon, the Harris campaign’s senior adviser for communications, said in a statement.
“Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own.

He likely will and the excuses will be many.

I think he'll show up. If not, no big deal. Only the twenty or so undecided voters need a debate at this point, and who knows if they'll even remember to breathe all the way until November.

Lol, looks like the left is attempting to "flip the script" and form another bs narrative. Harris not going to show up?.....too scared?....handlers know she will ruin the image they've built? Too funny.

His objection is time again being enforced by turning off the mic at the end of his response time. He wants to sow chaos by mic bullying.
