In an executive order, Trump says "I find that the Government of India is currently directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation oil" and due to those purchases, imports of Indian goods into the United States "shall be subject to an additional ... rate of duty of 25%."

From their perspective, they're surrounded on most of their borders by enemies, they need to provide energy security to 1.4 billion people while not having many natural reserves, and Russia has been a reliable ally and friend for the better part of a century during which time the United States has been the de facto stalwart military ally to Pakistan, the largest proliferator of terrorism on the planet, which has attempted to invade India three times using US-supplied weaponry.

They're not going to take "our" side over Russia especially knowing that a doofus like Donald is in charge and likely to Taco anyway.

Now what I do wish India would do is actually start playing on the world stage, because they are in an absolutely unique position to do so. How many nations are actual friends with both Ukraine and Russia? India. How many nations have signed military and defense agreements with both Iran and Israel? India. So, it infuriates me that they remain so frustratingly non-aligned when really it's India that ought to be hosting the peace summits.

Yeah, India's like because Russia was always going to win that war anyway and Europe is weakening.
