Trump has been threatened with prison

“Mr. Trump, it’s important to understand that the last thing I want to do is to put you in jail,” New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan warned from the bench. “You are the former president of the United States, and possibly the next president, as well.” But Merchan added he would take that step if Trump’s behavior did not change. “Your continued violations of this Court’s lawful order threaten to interfere with the administration of justice, in constant attacks which constitute a direct attack on the rule of law,” Merchan said. “I cannot allow that to continue.”

I'll believe it when I see it.

Trump knows Engoron doesn't want to actually jail him. Engoron must.

The whole thing is abominable. I cannot conceive of ever taking an appeal, reading the transcripts, and then seeing that some indigent black guy ran up 10 violations of any particular judicial order, gag or not, and not been jailed after being found in contempt.

How big is the chance that we will see it!?

What will happen, if he has to go to prison indeed?
He will get a bump in the polls. His image as a Christlike figure being persecuted by the forces of evil will be complete.

We will start to see passion plays about the crucufixion and resurrection of Donald Trump. 🙄

Trump wants this. He may not be able to campaign as much as he wants right now, but this would be better than any campaigning.

That (bolded above) is the wrong judge.

Trump has been threatened with prison

Threats and actions are two different things.

Lot's of people make threats, but they seldom have the balls to act on their threats.

They'll never throw him in jail, even though any normal person doing this would 100% have been thrown in jail by this point.

I have no idea.

I do appeals in criminal cases, but I've chosen to focus on appointed cases...aka, the defendant cannot afford an attorney. I have zero experience representing someone like Trump. He gets his own special set of rules because he is white and rich, and then a third layer of special rules because he's an ex-president and candidate entitled to secret service protection. I would be pretty damn disruptive all around to jail him on contempt.

He still should be. The likelihood of it? I don't know.

He will have to be placed in a prison where he will have no contact with other inmates. The best choice is ADX Florence.

How would a NY judge be able to send someone to a (federal) prison in CO?
