I think they had to. I would like to think, that with Trump already requesting the Supreme Court to over turn the Mar a lago lawsuit, they will NOT look kindly on someone who ignores a subpeona.

Typically, when a person refuses to testify, then guilt is presumed.

IMO, Trump couldn't care less if they think he is guilty. If they had any hard evidence that Trump did something wrong (with regards to the J-6 violence) then we would have heard about it by now. But obviously they DON'T have anything.

The grand fishing expedition has been in vain.

By and large Trump supporters want to defund the FBI, defund the CIA, render congressional oversight impotent, defund public education, etc etc while at the same time lowering taxes on the rich, reducing medicare and SS and making friends with authoritarians.

All because those institutions are friends or enemies of Trump.

I never said (or implied) that. The Committe has done its diligence. (As of today) They found no evidence linking Trump to the violence which occurred on January 6th.

Recall that at the staging rally, Trump asked his supporters to be peaceful. He had no idea about the violence that was unfolding at the Capitol building as he called for a peaceful demonstration. His security people didn't notify him of the violence until AFTER the staging rally was over.

That timeline is crucial to understanding Trump's (lack of) involvement in the riots.

Yeah, and the vote certainly was theatrical. BUT, it was called for since the committee finally concluded that Trump was in the middle of ALL this, and in effect, he DID cause the violence that set upon the Capitol for the purpose of interrupting the (no longer peaceful) transfer of power. Their subpoena was issued in good faith, but I seriously doubt they'll get a good faith response from Trump. Can't say they didn't give Trump a chance to testify in his defense....
