I wonder why he is running away from this since his lackey Barr said it was legally okay... DESPITE the SCOTUS saying otherwise.

Trump expected to back away from census citizenship question, direct Commerce to seek data through other sources

President Donald Trump is expected to issue an executive action Thursday directing the Commerce Department to obtain citizenship data through means other than the US census, according to two people with knowledge of the plan.

These people said Trump is expected to table his effort to add a question about citizenship status to the 2020 census, setting aside his demands last week to continue pursuing the issue despite a Supreme Court order blocking it.​
 
It's a pointless struggle, as there's no time to win in court and adjust the census form, which is already being produced.

Even Trump understands such things, if you have someone he respects explain it to him a few times.

But it's yet another example of him changing him mind within 48 hours.

Not a great record for thinking things through, but if we're going to keep electing 70+ year old folks to office, we're going to get some with diminished capacity.
 
Trump didn't change his mind. He's been attacking the problem every way he possibly can.

Yeah, him being a world class @sshole isn't helping at all.

I think the age trend is telling though, and I'd like to see it reversed.

There's plenty of 70yo that can do the job fine, but making it the norm (or even extending it with Biden) has a lot of downsides.
 
i hope that he backs down instead of causing a constitutional crisis. as much as i dislike the idiot, that kind of thing would not be good for the country at all.

He said he was going to adjust the form via EO, and now we are told he is not.

That's the change of mind I am referring to.

He talks tough, and then he backs down within 48 hours, as someone with some sense gets to him. It's a regular pattern with him.

I fully agree; I have been called an “ageist,” for my view on old politicians. “We” should be represented by someone who more represents the rank and file. Hard to blame good people from avoiding the “octagon.”
 
This was dead in the water after Trump and Barr said 'this needs to be done by June 30th', which as usual with this Admin was a lie.. Because then within a few days they changed the 'has to be done by date'..

The USSC said you can lie to the American people, but not us.

Now Trump will have to come up with another piece of red meat for his base.

What is up with the leaks that he is going to sign an executive order then?
 
Pure Trump; all fire and fury until the bill is due; then he folds like a cheap suit. Only brain dead people don’t see the pattern...
 
I won't be surprised if tomorrow we have the exact opposite headline....

I'd guess instead he said what he meant, and then had his mind changed for him.

SCOTUS never said it was illegal to ask respondents to the census their citizenship status.

So you want him to issue an executive order and start a major battle? Why? You would just criticize him for doing that

No, they said that the reasons the Administration cited were bogus; basically, “go back and bring a better argument.”

Then the lawyers rebelled and the Administration seems to have folded.

Can't argue he's prone to over promising.
 
Trump is mercurial. Whatever is best for Trump is how he rolls.

Maybe once a month this works out to the country's benefit.
