Smartphones and computers will be exempted from President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, according to new guidancefrom U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The guidance comes after Trump earlier this month imposed 125% tariffs on products from China, a move that was poised to take a toll on tech companies like Apple, which makes iPhonesand most of its other products in China.

The new tariff guidance also includes exclusions for other electronic devices and components, including semiconductors, solar cells, flat panel TV displays, flash drives, memory cards and solid-state drives used for storing data.

This absolute retard doesn’t know what he’s doing.

If his goal is being a paper tiger, then maybe he does. Maybe when all is said and done the only products affected by high tariffs will be toilet plungers manufactured in China.
🙂

Seriously though, this is idiotic and symptomatic of not having a real plan. The administration should have known blanket tariffs on China would impact a lot of technology products, so if they weren't ready to hold the line, they should have applied tariffs in a more targeted manner than now having to blink more than someone who just got pepper sprayed. Good grief.

Doing things with a long term plan, targeted tariffs, industrial strategy etc.

That’s hard.

This guy has no plan. Clearly the Execs of these tech companies got to him. Now there will be no tarrifs on exactly the things he wants to bring back to the US ! So it will be those who shop at Walmart and Dollar stores will be the ones left to suffer because they have no power.

its the same way he "fixed" health care and handled "infrastructure week" and "ended" the war in ukraine.
he is just a moron who can't think past 15 minutes from now.

No doubt, which was why this tariff fiasco to me sounded like nothing that was properly thought out. There's certainly a debate to be had on industrial strategy and luring some manufacturing back, but Donnie Boy didn't make that case with any real plan. He just did stupid things and assumed everyone would cave. Now he's stuck with a bond market rout, stock market losses, and having to backtrack on the very products that would add some bite to the tariffs on China. For those who wondered how it was possible he bankrupted most of his businesses, this is some good insight on how.

I was thinking the same thing. I can't help but wonder if there was a call from industry leaders since the tech sector's taken the hit because of the obvious implications for them as noted in the decline in many of their stock prices.

That doesn't line up with Fox "News" and their narrative. We don't want their chips because it's a matter of national security...
We need chips from Taiwan.
We will need chips from China as they recently had a big breakthrough with chips which will make the ones used now obsolete.
BTW, our chip building efforts is geared for the current, soon to be obsolete chip.

Yep, cutting research cash to universities for political gain is really gonna help.

Universities are woke so they have to be punished.

Never mind that cutting off research grants literally slits our own throats and cedes control of the future.

Drag Queens exist so it will not stand.

Surely his loyalists are starting to see the truth.

It's all so backwards. We used to be the ones with cutting-edge research, and now we're heavily dependent on China. I feel like industries moving overseas made us way too complacent. I agree with the need to move things back here, but we should have planned that starting with Trump's first term and be nearly 10 years into a larger strategy. Instead, it's impulsive decision after impulsive decision causing chaos in the economy.

The "they can't live without us" club is going to have a hard time defending this most recent retreat.

Turns out America needs Chinese stuff.

The entire tariff thing is retarded. We live better than any country on earth with things as they are.

BTW, i posted here a few days ago how this tariff war could lead to a hot war.
I was scorned.
Well last night several former cabinet members said the same.
They mentioned how Japan attacked us because we cut their oil which of course is correct.
Economic wars can become hot wars.
It is just a fact.
Out navy can't stand up to the Chinese navy.
