Trump ditching the gop and going independent?

Trump is the gift that keeps on giving if you are a democrat. If you are a republican, trump is the elephant in the room. Like him or detest him he still holds sway over the gop.

If trump decides to dump the gop and run as an independent, will that be enough proof for the trump supporters to realize he doesn't care about politics or the health of the nation, he cares about his ego alone, nothing more?

He's using the threat of a third party run to to blackmail the GOP into giving him the the nomination. If they don't nominate him, he'll run as a third party and guarantee they lose in '24. He doesn't care about the party itself. Don't forget he is psychopath. He only cares that it supports him. Once that stops, it becomes his enemy.

As an aside, I think Cheney will run only if he gets the nomination. It will be her attempt to force a loss on him. She probably wants to be in office, anyway.

I don't think it's that....I think Trump is just trying to stay out of jail. Threatening to run third party would cause GOP to lose, but if he can get Republicans to agree not to investigate Trump, then Trump will "graciously step aside for the good of the country" or something like that.

Trump is a criminal. He knows it and, what's more, he knows that everyone else knows it too. He's just trying to stay out of jail, which is why he is running for President again.

I hope to see the red MAGA hats and Rocky/Trump banners in attendance outside the prison, where Trump is serving his term of incarceration, and calling for him to run for president again. How proud they would be.
 
I still think tRump will work out a deal with DeSatanist to endorse him for the GOP nomination. In return, if DeSatanist wins, he will issue pardons for tRump and a select few. Transactional politics is tRumps lifeblood.

I doubt he do any time. I figure the best we can hope for would be a convictions and fines.

Unfortunately, a conviction would only be a badge of honor for MAGAt's.

You can't assume DT will use normal logic like that. He's insane and NEEDS to hear crowds to cheer for him.

If he had a rally and nobody showed up, I could see him stopping as it would effect him personally in the moment. But his crazy hardcore MAGA base will show up every time and cut their own political throats.

True, you can never argue with a crazy mind....you outta know by now...

I think when he realizes that the WH is out of his grasp, he will look for ways to benefit himself with whatever political capital he still has...getting a "Get out of Jail Free" card would be a good swap.

I have been saying for years that's the blackmail he has been using to keep republican politicians in line.

Or he told them he would tell his followers to not vote.

He will do his best to destroy any republican challenger in the primary. If he doesn't get the nomination he will run as an Independent.

No, his followers won't see that he never cared about them or our nation. His followers will continue to follow him. They will not vote republican in the general and will attack any republican who does get the nomination.

Bottom line, trump will finish destroying the republican party.

I have no sympathy for the republicans. They were warned over and over again. They chose this. They deserve everything that is coming.

The rest of us didn't choose this and will have to endure the destruction that trump will inflict on our nation.

I think that could be a possibility but if DeSantis made that public knowledge I think it would sink him with a good number of moderate Republicans and Independents ....and the Presidency.

I have thought from the git go that Trump running as an Independent if he didn't win the nomination was a real possibility. It seems Trump is recognizing his star is fading and DeSantis' is rising.

It would be a "behind the scenes" agreement....

tRump would make a valiant effort and then do as graceful for him as possible pivot saying while DeSatanist would never be as great a leader as he would, tRump recognizes the situation and encourages all his supporters to vote for DeSatanist. He may even campaign for him a bit.

Soon after taking office DeSatanist would announce pardons for tRump and maybe his kids. Saying it was for the good of the country and we need to move on. This gives three years for the taste to fade in the voter's mouth.

Some of the public would. Remember some members of the public still argue the election was stolen.
They would be able to put the blinders on by saying, "See, I told you all along that tRump was a righteous man and would put the party ahead of his own ambitions!"....
