Programs available to people with disabilities are "immoral," per Trump. And so it looks like they're on the chopping block, right next to Medicaid. We've definitely crossed the line into cartoonish evil somewhere along the way.

Trump Cuts Threaten Agency Running Meals on Wheels
In President Trump’s quest to end what he termed “illegal and immoral discrimination programs,” one of his executive orders promoted cracking down on federal efforts to improve accessibility and representation for those with disabilities, with agencies flagging words like “accessible” and “disability” as potentially problematic. Certain research studies are no longer being funded, and many government health employees specializing in disability issues have been fired.

The downsizing of the agency, the Administration for Community Living, is part of far-reaching cuts planned at the H.H.S. under the Trump administration’s proposed budget.
The community living division helps coordinate services and provide funding for older and disabled Americans so they can stay at home rather than live in a nursing home. With a budget of $2.6 billion, the unit represents a minuscule fraction of total H.H.S. spending.
So far, several programs under the unit will be eliminated under the proposed budget, including one that provides ombudsmen in nursing homes, to help ensure the safety and welfare of residents, and respite care programs, to provide a break for those caring for an older person or person with disabilities. States would also have more latitude in determining where funds should be allocated.

In addition to meal deliveries, the community living agency supports numerous programs, including the nonprofit Centers for Independent Living, that are staffed by people with disabilities, who help older adults and others with disabilities move out of nursing homes and back into the community, and find services, like transportation and legal assistance.
Community groups like Meals on Wheels are bracing for significant cuts. In addition to the potential loss of funding from the Administration for Community Living, Republican lawmakers are proposing reducing grants to states that use another stream of federal funding. The Trump administration and Republicans are also pushing for significant cuts to the Medicaid program, which provides heath care coverage for low-income Americans.

Congress is unlikely to support that, thus will continue their continuous annual deficit (stimulus?) spending. After all, doing so results in re-election rates of over 90%. While Trump has no desire to get re-elected, congress critters do.

Congress is unlikely to support that

Doesn't really matter. Congress supports helping low-income families pay for heating, too. Yet it turns out the president can just fire everyone operating the program and refuse to administer it. Loophole, I guess!

Anyway, goodbye Meals on Wheels.

Nothing has stopped Trump from ceasing to pay for things Congress has authorized yet. It’s what DOGE has been doing this whole time.

Yeah, feels like we're pretty far past "Congress will save us!" optimism. We're down to two branches of government at best right now, and one of those started arresting members of the other today.

That's funny. He has every desire to get re-elected. Why is he selling 2028 hats to his democracy hating base of misfits? Why is Bannon frequently talking up ways to get Trump a third term? I doubt it will work, but it's a fact the entire MAGAt ensemble is working hard at it. GOP congress members have proposed legislation that would allow him to run. I realize they're idiots, but none the less, they are trying.

Those darn unelected bureaucrats.

"The less fortunate get all the breaks!" was a punchline when lovable idiot Fry exclaimed it in Futurama. For the sociopaths at DOGE, it's a mantra.

DOGE slashes disability and aging services
The Trump administration is poised to eliminate dozens of federal programs, including protective services for vulnerable seniors, chronic disease self-management education, resource centers for people who have been paralyzed or lost a limb and one that tries to help older people prevent falls. Even a more modest federal initiative aimed at making polling places more accessible would be eliminated under the proposal.

All of these programs facing the knife fall under the Administration for Community Living, a component of the Department of Health and Human Services that aims to help older adults and people with disabilities remain in their homes and communities. The whole department is being zeroed out, according to the budget proposal.
These cuts carry political risks. Voters over the age of 65, a key constituency for President DONALD TRUMP, may not take kindly to the erosion of services that, while less visible than Social Security checks, often determine whether someone can live on their own or needs institutional care.

“Cuts to ACL programs are going to mean costs to programs like Medicare and Medicaid,” Barkoff said.

Elsewhere across the government, the administration is pressing ahead with similar cuts: DOGE recently cancelled a Department of Education contract for “Charting My Path,” a program designed to help teenagers with disabilities transition from high school to adulthood. Trump has also announced plans to shift special education oversight from the Education Department to HHS, though details of the plan remain sparse.

Future lawsuit right there. That's a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act!

Apparently, removing wheelchair ramps on curbs makes America great again?
