Trump Asked About I.R.S. Inquiry of F.B.I. Officials, Ex-Aide Says Under Oath

"John F. Kelly, who served as former President Donald J. Trump’s second White House chief of staff, said in a sworn statement that Mr. Trump had discussed having the Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies investigate two F.B.I. officials involved in the investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia.

Mr. Kelly said that his recollection of Mr. Trump’s comments to him was based on notes that he had taken at the time in 2018. Mr. Kelly provided copies of his notes to lawyers for one of the F.B.I. officials, who made the sworn statement public in a court filing.

“President Trump questioned whether investigations by the Internal Revenue Service or other federal agencies should be undertaken into Mr. Strzok and/or Ms. Page,” Mr. Kelly said in the statement. “I do not know of President Trump ordering such an investigation. It appeared, however, that he wanted to see Mr. Strzok and Ms. Page investigated.”"

He IS "the deep state."

Seems like every witness to Trump's massive corruption stayed silent about it as long as they could. Where are their moral compasses? Everything Trump touches dies.
If you don't ask, you won't know what can be done. It seems to me Trump wasn't demanding it, merely exploring the idea, with those who were his advisors. There is nothing illegal or corrupt about throwing ideas out.

There's a difference between brainstorming and actually taking action.

One is a good thing to do. The other is criminal.

"Mr. Kelly said that among those Mr. Trump said “we ought to investigate” and “get the I.R.S. on” were the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey and his deputy, Andrew G. McCabe. His account of Mr. Trump’s desires to use the I.R.S. against his foes comes after the revelation by The Times this summer that Mr. Comey and Mr. McCabe had both been selected for a rare and highly intrusive audit by the tax agency in the years after Mr. Kelly left the White House." Ready to call for an indictment?

Why would he ask?

You know, there is more to governing than punishing your enemies. In fact, in a democracy, its corruption.

Why do POTUS have advisors if they can't ask what is possible?

Someone else said it best, every Republican accusation is an admission of their own guilt.
If I recall correctly, @Josie even started a whole thread asking about that phrase. I hope she is paying attention to this extremely obvious example.

“[Trump’s] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!” Page texted Strzok.
“No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it,” Strzok responded.

And they did their best to stop him.
You know there are multiple ways to interpret those statements right? I know because I have said almost exactly the same thing to friends in the past. "We" being millions of concerned citizens "stopping" him by exercising our free speech and voting rights.

If you want to imagine a far reaching corruption conspiracy out of that, you can. But the above is why you actually need evidence of criminality. Your imagination is not convincing in a court of law.

You didn't just come out of a meeting with your boss, Priestap, when you said it, did you?

Nope, but even if I was you would still need actual evidence of criminality. Speculation of corruption doesn't cut it.

In the eyes of some Trump can do no wrong. There is an excuse for everything.

So what?

Any good President will brainstorm. Hell, any good LEADER will brainstorm.

And yes, Strzok and Page NEEDED to be investigated. Too bad everyone from Horowitz to Mueller to Durham DIDN'T investigate those two.

Soooooo……it’s OK to “brainstorm” using the IRS as a political weapon to enforce a personal vendetta.

But, when you’re fuhrer is gone, it’s not OK.

Got it. The hypocracy is obvious and epic.

Brainstorming for what?
How to impede an investigation?

No. How to deal with corrupt executive branch employees.

LOL!!

Just wait till Trump is President again. Those people who used the federal government as a weapon against him while he was President...and certainly those who used the federal government as a weapon against him since he was President...will find out what REAL justice is all about.

No. How to deal with corrupt executive branch employees.
So Trump could assume that Strozk had IRS issues because he was corrupt. I assume one day a iberal president can assume that maga guys do not paY their legal taxes because they are corrupt.

No matter what happens in 2024, we will still be here dealing with your unhingedness :P

You were saying the same thing in 2020 until Biden melted all maga magots under his foot...

You are saying that if Trump becomes President again, he will weaponize the federal govt.

The more Trump talks the more I am convinced he would be a clear and present danger to the US.

Biden didn't do anything...except stay in his basement.

He was installed in the WH.

Nope. Not saying that at all.

I'm saying he'll destroy the weaponized federal government.

Think about it. Biden did not do nearly as much campaigning, and STILL got more votes than Trump. If I was Trump I'd be severely embarrassed.

Nope. Not saying that at all.

I'm saying he'll destroy the weaponized federal government.
- He would use the govt. against what he "believes" are his enemies. He has never talked about due process for those be believes have wronged him.

I am saying Trump will destroy the USA.

If you think your leader and his maga magots were so stupid that they let somebody steal the election, it makes it more fun.

Saying it in a thread a bout him weaponizing the federal government.

Trump appointed a lot of people who turned around and stabbed him in the back...even his own VP.

Rest assured, that won't happen again
You base that statement on what? Research? Trump actions? He can't even keep a legal team.
