Trump announces immigration ban

economic reasons aren't a justifiable reason to bypass congress. Especially, when he is still letting in the workers that work for his properties.

In a time of national emergency, he can absolutely bypass congress on issues of immigration. No question. Hands down.

how late to the party were we?

You can't count days/weeks?

Three weeks ago.

It is a fact that if I were to fly to Mexico tomorrow, I could go straight to a lab in Mexico and get a test by simply requesting it.

So what?

Mexico still isn't even testing but a fraction of the number the US tests.

Closed borders are being done world wide. Why is it evil on the US/Mexico border?

it answered your question...we should test everyone who needs or wants a test, immigrant, citizen whoever.

That doesnt stop a 'tested' individual from coming in contact with an infected person or infected material. Immigrants add to that pool of humans circulating in public, as everyone needs to do at least somewhat.

And why should we be paying for even more testing by adding more people into the country?? Do we have enough tests for everyone? What happens when they arrive and test positive? Are we putting them up in some quarantine facility or motel and footing the bill? Or putting them right back on a plane?

yet, Trump is still going to permit all of his employees to re immigrate to the US under the HB visa program.

Another broad brush lie.

And the travel from England is for US citizens returning home.

There are more flights than just those from England, as I pointed out to you in another post.

Americans can also bring the virus into the country. I flew back from Rome to Boston in March. What is to say I didn't bring it with me?

The fact I can get a test in Mexico, but not one in the US if I want one is pretty damn significant...incredible that you somehow missed the point there.

So, if it is so vital why is he still letting visa holders that work for Trump properties in?

Here is how it shook out in California....

March 4th Emergency was declared. It was recommended but not required to stay at home.

March 19th a formal stay at home was issued. At that time the Mexican President was still encouraging interactions without restrictions.

March 29/30 Mexico finally follows suit.

He thinks only immigrants can bring the virus....the reality is, he has a problem with all immigration, legal or otherwise...

In South Carolina an order wasn't issued until April 7, your point?

So what?

Really.

So what?

That doesn't change the facts.

Mexico dragged their feet as their President encouraged interaction .

Mexico still isn't even testing but a fraction of the number the US tests.

I just proved to you that anyone who wants to be tested in Mexico only need to go to a lab and be tested...and in the US you have to actually be admitted to the hospital to be tested...and you are still saying so what? This is why we have 800,000 cases, because sufficient people aren't able to be tested.

Source? And really, in terms of numbers I dont care...I dont have to be convinced that dishonest moron believes himself above the law and that he doesnt have to play by the rules.

I am posting on a strictly pragmatic basis.

Whataboutism.

You asked "how late to the party were we?"

We as in California weren't.

We as the US in general weren't.

We as in the EU weren't.

We as in much of Asia weren't.

Another campaign promise handled, never let a good crisis go to waste.

When they get the meat processing plants disinfected, where are they going to get the immigrants that usually work the lines?

I repeat. So what?

So what?

How does that change the fact?

It doesn't so you get 'So what?'

This is why we have 800,000 cases,

Incorrect. You don't understand how viruses work. Do you?

Nor do you understand that if you test 100,000 people you will find a higher number than if you test 100.

because sufficient people aren't able to be tested.

Incorrect.

Look up how viruses spread.

He thinks only immigrants can bring the virus....the reality is, he has a problem with all immigration, legal or otherwise...

But he hires them to work at his properties.

they are immigrants...until you become a citizen you are an immigrant...smh

Not to pick nits, but no. Green card holders are permanent legal residents. Visa holders are not permanent.

Another Mexico issue...

The hospitals workers are infected...

At least 686 people in Mexico have died of covid-19, according to authorities. About 9 percent of the country’s confirmed cases — 535 people — are employees of the Social Security Institute, known by its Spanish acronym IMSS. They make up around half the Mexican medical professionals who have been infected, officials say.

Oh, and you keep going on about testing?

But Mexico is also pursuing an unorthodox strategy. It is relying less on tests, and more on its own disease modeling, to guide its response to the pandemic. As Central American neighbors declared emergencies in mid-March, Mexico kept its airports, shops and government offices open — the government didn’t urge a broad stay-at-home policy until last week.

Mexico has extensive experience with infectious diseases; it was the epicenter of the 2009 swine flu pandemic. But unlike many nations, it has not rushed to scale up testing. López-Gatell, a respected epidemiologist with a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University — an institution currently distinguishing itself with a widely cited website tracking the pandemic — acknowledged that Mexico’s official count does not reflect the real number of cases.
