Ottawa police say ‘flood’ of false 911 calls came ‘significantly’ from U.S. sources

Quote:
Ottawa police said Thursday that a significant amount of calls that “almost jammed” the city’s 911 phone system on Wednesday evening came from U.S. addresses.

“They were coming in from the United States,” Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly said in a news conference Thursday.

“Not exclusively, but significantly from United States addresses.”

Police reported earlier Thursday that there was a “concerted effort to flood” 911 lines.

“This endangers lives and is completely unacceptable,” the police service said.

Akron-area man could face felony for bomb threat misdirected to Ottawa, Ohio

An Akron-area man's alleged attempt to disrupt police services in Canada's capital city on Monday may result in a felony charge of making a false alarm after he mistakenly called Putnam County 911 dispatch in Ottawa, Ohio.

The phone calls coincide with mass protests in Canada by demonstrators protesting COVID-19 measures.

"He called in and reported he had a bomb that he was going to set off a bomb in Ottawa," said Putnam County Sheriff's Capt. Brad Brubaker.

Brubaker said the dispatcher kept the man on the phone for 10 minutes or more. Dispatchers were confused when the caller said he was at a KFC restaurant, when there is none in the village of 4,500 residents about 50 miles southwest of Toledo.

"He said 'Wait; you're in Ohio? ... Oh, I'm not shot, I'm just trying to waste their resources," Brubaker said.

"The dispatcher's like, 'Well, you called us a little bit ago with a bomb threat,'" Brubaker said.

"He admitted it was all false ... He said he was mad about their mask mandates and vaccination requirements," Brubaker added.

Statement by Canadian Trucking Alliance President on Ottawa Protests

Earlier this week the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) issued its position on the convoy protesting the bilateral mandate introduced by the Governments of Canada and the United States that requires all essential workers, including truck drivers, to be vaccinated. The only way to cross the border, in a commercial truck or any other vehicle, is to get vaccinated. As an industry we must adapt and comply with this mandate and the vast majority have.

While a number of Canadians are in Ottawa to voice their displeasure over this mandate, it also appears that a great number of these protestors have no connection to the trucking industry and have a separate agenda beyond a disagreement over cross border vaccine requirements. As these protests unfold over the weekend, we ask the Canadian public to be aware that many of the people you see and hear in media reports do not have a connection to the trucking industry.

To those in the trucking industry that have chosen to participate in this protest regarding cross border mandates, we ask that you engage in a peaceful demonstration today then leave the City of Ottawa to avoid any issues to the welfare and safety of the citizens of Ottawa. Your behaviour today will not only reflect upon you and your family but the 300,000 plus fellow Canadians that, like you, take great pride in our industry. Please remember this important responsibility you bear today in delivering your message responsibly but also the impact your actions will have on the image of the majority of your colleagues from coast-to-coast who do not share your opinion but share your passion for the industry and country.

Over the last 24 months, CTA has and will continue to work with the Government of Canada to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain. This includes several health and safety measures like raising vaccine rates in our sector. CTA will continue this work to benefit our sector and, by extension, the Canadian economy. This work will begin again this Monday when the Government of Canada hosts the National Supply Chain Summit.

New from me: Paranoia and alarmism: ‘intelligence reports’ hint at Canada truckers’ outlook

Paranoia and alarmism: Canada truckers’ ‘intelligence reports’ hint at mindset

Documents compiled by protest organisers give a glimpse into a conspiracy theory-drenched outlook

Daily “intelligence reports” compiled by protest leaders and seen by the Guardian – as well as public comments by the organisers – have grown increasingly alarmist in recent days.

While the reports include misinformation, and should not be taken as credible intelligence, they nevertheless offer an insight on the occupiers’ conspiratorial mindset.

Truckers misrepresenting employers by joining Ottawa protest, companies say

Several firms try to disassociate from protest as website 'names and shames'

Daniel Miousse was shocked to see a photo of one of his company vehicles among the truck convoy protesters in downtown Ottawa, which was recently posted online.

Miousse, who owns an industrial fence company near Montreal, said he had no idea the pickup truck or his employee were in the nation's capital.

"One of our employees took our truck since, I think, last Wednesday," said Miousse, who is currently in Florida. "I was very upset. So I sent four people Sunday morning to get our truck back."

He said he plans to fire the worker.

Truckers are flirting with extremists. They should call off their protest

‘The closer the “freedom convoy” of truckers opposed to new rules around vaccine mandates gets to Ottawa, the less it has to do with truckers or even with those rules.’

The closer the “Freedom Convoy” of truckers opposed to new rules around vaccine mandates gets to Ottawa, the less it has to do with truckers or even with those rules.

The convoy may have started out on the West Coast as a legitimate, albeit wrongheaded, protest against new federal regulations affecting essential workers who regularly cross the Canada-U.S. border (truckers prominent among them).

But by now, as could have been easily predicted from the start, it has become a magnet for every sort of extremist — not just sincere anti-vaxxers, but a jumble of conspiracy nuts, Western separatists, far right-wingers, and worse.

‘Freedom Convoy’ Size Exaggerated by Miscaptioned Videos
This story is developing

If the "freedom convoy" is as big as people say it is, why are so many videos being miscaptioned to exaggerate its size?

So can we officially declare this to be an astroturf campaign?

No. Because you have no evidence for such a claim. It’s interesting that the left, exclusively funded by big money interests, Is obsessed with calling other movements “astroturf” especially when you can’t point to who the puppet masters are.

Lol, sure buddy.

Is obsessed with calling other movements “astroturf” especially when you can’t point to who the puppet masters are.

Then you must not have ever heard of the Koch Brothers.

Lol, sure buddy.

Absolutely true, Wall Street gave more money to Biden than Trump

The one Koch, the other died, but in any event are you alleging Koch industries in orchestrating all of this?

Biden is not a leftist. And the fact you think he's a leftist just demonstrates how f***ed up your political perspective is.

The one Koch, the other died, but in any event are you alleging Koch industries in orchestrating all of this?

So because one died everything he did in the past didn't count?

No, I don't know if specifically Koch industries is involved in this one. It is too still too early to officially declare anything but knowing history...

I asked a specific question, you’re insisting this is astroturf, you made the allegation now you need to say who these people are hired by.

I asked a specific question, you’re insisting this is astroturf, you made the allegation now you need to say who these people are hired by.

I never insisted anything. I asked a question that relates to conservative movements/protests of the past. The Tea Party Movement was portrayed as a 'grassroots' movement. We later learned it was anything but.

The tea party movement was broadly grassroots. It was later sort of coopted, But a lot of the original organizers and activists were based out of the Seattle region, and I knew them personally. The first protest that is considered part of the tea party movement, was in fact organized by a lady who lived in Bremerton Washington near my hometown. She organized a rally in Seattle against the stimulus bill. She had no institutional connections to the conservative movement at the time. The next several events were also in Washington and were organized with the help of of local members of the state Republican Party. I was there For the formation of this, and I know what you’re saying is false.

Buddy, there are always going to be grassroots organization by the left and right on any number of social issues/government policies. The Tea Party as we came to know it was astro-turfed. You have all but admitted by acknowledging it was co-opted by billionaires.

It was really coopted by opportunistic corporate republicans. But in any event the left are the real astroturfers. They organize protests, pay for them through NGOs and various political groups, collect their ballots, and they protect them from criminal charges for actual riots and people like Kyle Rittenhouse who defend themselves from leftist rioters get charged whereas they rioters do not.,

You're totally right, EMN, leftists hold all the power in society, that's why it's a capitalist system with no M4A and no living wage.

And rioters do get charged. Don't know where you get your info, but it is clearly inaccurate.

The specific leftists policies you want may have not been enacted but that’s not a shock. The intellectual left made a deal with big businesses long ago, the businesses will bankroll their social cancer issues like sodomy and gender bending and in return they’ll get to rent seek.
