what does "trickle down government" mean?

Its just right wing speak for tossing some red meat to the true believers who hate government, its programs and its role in American life. Beyond that, is just empty rhetoric devoid of any actual intellectual substance.

what does "trickle down government" mean?

I think it's brilliant.

"Let's give the government more money to spend. They can spend it so much better than we can.

Let's allow the government to make even more rules and regulations. We need them."

Let's allow the Federal government to force programs on the states. The states don't know what they're doing.

good
now tell us what the hell it means

She doesnt know its just brilliant....Ill take a stab at it....trickle down govt is when the Potus and the Majority leaders are of the same party and they pee on the minority leaders

Brief history of the phrase. It is not just Romney.

A Brief History Of

"The first attributed usage of the term “trickle-down government” in something like the way Romney seems to mean is in 1988, when the perpetually unsuccessful Republican political candidate Alan Keyes used it against Maryland Sen. Paul Sarbanes, against whom he was running, in a political debate. "

"Sen. Chuck Robb, D.-Va., uses the phrase “trickle-down government” to describe similar buck-passing in a 1991 speech to the National Association of Counties"

thanks for that link
here is the excerpt which reflects why i sought to see if there was a legitimate meaning to the expression 'trickle down government'
To judge from its history, “trickle-down government” is a phrase whose focus-group-tested function has less to do with any inherent meaning than with neutralizing (or, in Clinton's case, balancing out) the phrase “trickle-down economics,” i.e., tax cuts for the rich.
appears to have been one of those senseless 1984 expressions that keep recurring

good

The use of slow government expansion in order to increase the standard of living and so forth of Americans.

would that then tell us mitt is against the slow expansion of government which increases the standard of living of the average citizen?

I was going to edit that, I am going to be on the road. Anyhow, what I meant to say was The use of government expansion in order to slowly increase the standard of living and so forth of Americans.

He's reiterating a 20th century American conservatism that is distrustful of government's justification or ability to accomplish improvements for its citizenry.

what does "trickle down government" mean?

Honestly, Romney doesn't know. They are just words and their application is something foreign to him.

and this is why i think Obama passed up a ripe opportunity to embarrass mitt by putting him on the spot
"governor romney, you have used the expression 'trickle down government' twice now in two debates. tell me and the viewing public exactly what constitutes 'trickle down government'"

and then watch the terror trace across willard's face

Not really. You can tell when someone is saying something that they have no real sense of what it means (frequently it involves someone using a phrase or term in its exact opposite meaning). Mitt Romney displayed what he meant by it pretty well.

1) Obamacare
2) His investments in alternative energy companies
3) His actions with GM

I mean, it's not that hard for someone like Mitt to reply in kind with that. The only thing is that you have to then go back and cover ground that has already been covered: What does Mitt Romney want to do, how have his previous statements/actions been different from ideas employed by the administration. All in all, you're asking them to cover the same ground in almost the same way.
