Are you a fired Fed worker? Well, never fear! Factory jobs created by Trump's Tariffgeddon will supply you with a new one:

“On one side, the president is reordering trade,” Bessent said. “On the other side, we are shedding excess labor in the federal government, and bringing down federal borrowings.”

“That will give us the labor that we need for the new manufacturing,” Bessent continued, arguing artificial intelligence and automation would limit how many workers needed to fill new jobs.

This is just as bad as Biden's dumbass comment about coal miners "learning to code".

Wow. We're going to fire you but you can apply for the robot's job.

Yes massa?

Forget the factories. With the immigrants gone, we will need someone to pick the berries and clean the slaughterhouses. Senior ex-FBI agents can line up for the application on the right, and will get special consideration.

Just get able body people into the labor pool and everything figures itself out through the free-market system. Maybe these laid off workers can't work in the factory, but they can replace the current jobs of those who are in fact qualified to work in the factory.

I agree. People who have never been held to account probably won't do well under a piece rate.

Actually no, because at least that comment addressed jobs that are more relevant.
:)

What Bessent is saying is people who are likely way overqualified for this work now have to take low wage jobs.

Able bodied people are already in the labor pool. The US is already very near full employment.

Sec. Bessent:

- President Trump wants more oi/gas production from federal lands. How is that to be done when the federal government has let go many of those who would make more leases available, issue the contract out for bid, award the lease and conduct inspections of the oil and gas site?
- President Trump wants more timber production off of federal forest lands. Same situation as oil and gas. How is an agency to do more with less when people who would make it happen have been fired.

I am not impressed with your talking points.

Uh .... no it isn't. The manufacturing jobs that Trump's policies allege might someday be expected to create, probably won't exist for a generation, because corporations would have to be created to invest in and ramp up, zoning approved, buildings built, infrastructure upgraded, etc. before those jobs can even be provided. Conversely, coding jobs are already in abundance everywhere across the country, and many people can be trained to fill those positions immediately. Big difference.

We have yet to approach rates we had in the 90s.

Which was a response to the notion that we have to keep producing and using coal at the same rate because otherwise coal miners would lose their jobs.

For a start, maybe a "Site Inspection Team" only needs to be one or two, instead of the likely eight or ten off on a boondoggle.
How is an agency to do more with less when people who would make it happen have been fired.
Here's a thought. Maybe the ones that are left could work full time.

That they won't be hired for because they're overqualified.

I got turned down for a job right after getting my certifications in IT because of my nuclear power past, as they told me they felt setting up IT infrastructure in a store would be boring with that on my resume.

your speculation is noted. Where is your proof of 8 to 10 are used?

Here is a thought. Try educate yourself on the process and who all is involved.

Where is your proof that they workers do not put in a full days. You seem to believe the majority of federal workers are slackers. Is that true?

We have yet to approach rates we had in the 90s.

No shit. The Boomers are retiring. But let me guess, you want to force the elderly back to work, right?

The GOP’s cultural revolution is in full swing.

We have yet to approach rates we had in the 90s.
The average prime age labor force participation rate in the ‘90s was 83.7%. The average prime age labor force participation rate over the last year has been 83.6%.

Overall labor force participation is down because we have substantially more retirees today than we did in the ‘90s. Country got old.

We have yet to approach rates we had in the 90s.
Who says we need to? Just look at the history depicted in your own chart. The 90s were an historical bubble of service and tech jobs that were not filled with the kind of labor being proposed by recapturing the manufacturing jobs we've been steadily losing since the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Americans are not going to sit at sewing machines 10 hours a day, and crank out piecework garments like they did 60 years ago, ... not even at four times the salary they get in China, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.

Unless you're willing to pay $50 for underwear, and $150 for a flannel shirt, then fulfilling Trump's grand delusion would require turning the US into a third world country. Ironically, the people who very much would be willing to fill those positions are the same folks that Trump is currently in the process of deporting! We can't have it both ways.

Well, two isn't enough for a good lunch, is it?
Where is your proof that they workers do not put in a full days. You seem to believe the majority of federal workers are slackers. Is that true?
No, not the majority, just about 20%.

What factories then?
