Which ones?new entry rules
Which ones?new entry rules
My wife looked into this a few years ago. Though she was able to trace her lineage back to The Old Country when we visited EPIC in Dublin, she quickly discovered she was far too removed to acquire Irish citizenship by blood.Do you know that if you can prove Irish ancestry (parents or grandparents) you can easily immigrate to Ireland? I've looked into this as both sets of grandparents were born in Ireland.
Irish citizenship through birth or descent
You are not automatically an Irish citizen if you were born on the island of Ireland. You may be entitled to Irish citizenship if your parent(s) or grandparents were Irish. You may be entitled to Irish citizenship if you were born outside of Ireland, but you may need to register your birth.www.citizensinformation.ie
I didn't understand that either. Also: "You are not automatically an Irish citizen if you were born on the island of Ireland."
Ireland does not have birthright citizenship. THey eliminated it twenty years ago.I didn't understand that either.
Too bad...a wonderful, beautiful, country with damn fine pubs and even finer people. The first time I travelled there the customs official looked at my Canadian passport and said "welcome home" ......name on my passport at that time...O'Grady
I've seen your posts and they are not Trump friendly.
If you go, don't take your phone, use a burner.
For more than five weeks, yes.
However YOU DO need official ID. Usually a driver's license keeps them happy but it better be the same state as the plates on the car. If they are different they can seize the car!
It's not like the 60's and 70's where I could walk across with a nod. Since the Regan era it is much harder to access a visa to the US, and getting harder and harder to get into Canada.
Based on what I have seen in my life passports will become mandatory both ways in a matter of a year or two.
Americans will be arresting people who fail to provide proper papers.
It's going to get way ugly.
Firstly, I've looked at the actual requirements as published by USCIC here. I'm not sure what new formalities are required by Canadians, or really anyone else lawfully admitted to the United States. So far as I'm aware, everyone is issued an I-94 upon entry (whether paper or electronic). The guidance mentions Canadians entering by land who were not issued an I-94 at entry, but I honestly have no idea what circumstances might give rise to such a scenario.

And second, these are not "new entry rules." Even assuming that something additional is required after admission when staying for longer than thirty days, nothing additional is required at entry for such stays.
Shit, I'm American, and I'm afraid to leave the country unless it's a one-way ticket.
Sorry, when we started discussing alleged additional "entry rules" I guess I thought it was pretty clearly implied we were discussing how those alleged "entry rules" would affect those who complied with "entry rules" in the first place. Since the most basic bedrock rule of the US border is that crossings shall only be made at designated ports of entry, people who behave in the manner you describe do not fall into that category. Certain exceptions are made for pleasure craft arrivals, but reporting entry via ROAM and "NEVER go[ing] through customs" are not the same thing.Actually there are hundreds of paths to enter the US through Canada without going through customs. In some places the only demarcation is the white line on "0" avenue.
There are hiking trails that venture well into and back out of the US that no US official has ever laid eyes on.
Hundreds of people cross daily without a single contact with an official of any kind.
At Point Roberts you can walk from a back yard into the US, make a purchase of any kind and walk back and its unlikely ANY authority whatsoever will know about it.
The same is true of the Lake-of-the-woods region as well as the Quebec border with New Hampshire and Vermont. Some Canadians in Quebec have cottages on Lake Champlain that they go to every week end and NEVER go through customs.
It's pretty much a huge joke. I neighbor of mine somehow managed to smuggle a car in.
Only pay duty on shit if you're too stupid to know no one is watching and no one gives a ****!
I'm told the situation is similar in Alaska.
That is only for boarding a plane. You need a drivers license to drive even within any state, though you don't need any ID to ride in a car or train or bus or walk/hike anywhere. So this is not anything except saying that air travel is problematic now as it was after 9/11 - this is all about the stupidity of Republicans.Beginning yesterday in the US, a Real ID will be required for travel within the United States.
The Real ID is a drivers license with a gold star in the upper right hand. You can obtain a Real ID at any state drivers license facility for a fee. Check your state's Secretary of State website.
Citizens can also travel within the US with a US passposrt.
No Real ID or passport?. You will be slowed down by having to jump through TSA security hoops before you can board a US flight.

Yes. Thank you. It would have been better, however, to specify that this was about airplane travel. My post was a public courtesy.
This is their carelessness, as I knew this a couple of years ago - the DMV was offering an upgraded driver's license if you paid an extra fee, and this would work for airplane travel and as a passport card for Canada/Mexico.It was obvious at US airports that not everyone was aware of the Real ID requirement now in effect.
The biggest problem with English beer is they sever it warmer than I like. Most places store the beer on open cooling shelves which doesn't cool the beer enough for my tasteIt could have been worse - you could have sipped English beer.
For Irish beer I prefer Kilkenney.
Fun fact: Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease for their James Gate Dublin Brewery in 1759.
I doubt anyone will be arrested but you could get turned away. For more than five weeks, yes.

Not true..an enhanced drivers license is sufficient to travel to Canada from certain states but only by water or ground transportation...not by air where a passport or passport card is required. We've needed a passport since just after 9/11.
I am 71 and have never been close to getting shot in the US, even in risky neighborhoods. I was nearly shot in Europe.I don't want to get shot so won't be going there.
Is Canada accepting refugees yet?I did know that but I never would leave Canada and my family. My paternal grandparents were born in Ireland staunch Catholics , my maternal grandparents in England, staunch Protestants. My Mom converted to marry may Dad......some tense family moments.
In the State of Washington the enhanced driver's license bill was passed by a democrat state congress and signed by democrat governor. That is only for boarding a plane. No but you could come in on the pretense of travel and never go back. It happens a lot for people who are retired or not dependent upon a job. I'll hide you at my lake home for awhile..it would make for a nice summer! Is Canada accepting refugees yet?![]()
What bullshit.I am 71 and have never been close to getting shot in the US, even in risky neighborhoods. I was nearly shot in Europe.
What projection on your part. It was in the 1970. You don't think Europe has gun violence? What bullshit.
Man you pile it deep![]()
