Transgender people's fears

Would make me quite happy to know taxpayer dollars are no longer going to support elective surgery/hormone injections.
If people want that done - they they - alone - should pay for it.

So you are saying... you are okay with a group of people going without healthcare. Weird flex but okay.

Same Sex marriage is on life support with Trump and his Supreme Court. Just like Putin...if anyone thinks these dictatorial types will stop after they get what they want (Roe's overturning in the OT's case and Ukraine in Putin's) they are kidding themselves. When they get through with one conquest--they simply go after another. Its always been that way...it will always be that way. so if I was trans, I would be getting married before 1/20. The school of thought being that it would be harder to annul a marriage than to simply pass an edict outlawing a future union.

Pretty much. That's the plan anyways.

It is not healthcare.
It is an elective choice to receive medical intervention in an attempt to change their gender.
I don't have a problem with someone ABOVE THE AGE OF 18 doing that - but taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for it

Lets face it. LBGTQ or whatever is yesterday's news. There won't be any out-roar from the right because we won't be hearing peep from the left. Trump and the Republican have much bigger issue to tackle. Like mass deportation, world diplomacy, deep state and DOGE. They're challenging subjects. It'll take all their energy to pull it off.

Trump ran on a strong anti-trans platform. You can't pretend otherwise. Why should the GOP let go of that campaign strategy when it so clearly worked for them?

I am Canadian. All I will say is this. Many people you think are intolerant of you may not be and simply have an issue of when its introduced into educational curriculum and what form the content should take. They may also have an issue specific to competitive amateur sports where people born male claim to identify as female or vice versa or are taking testosterone or other gender transition prescriptions., This subjective preference or transition with chemicals process ignores inherent biological advantages of disadvantages that may cause unfair competition and/or present physical exposure issues in locker-rooms. Those issues and concerns are shared by gays, straights, transexuals.

Also the debate as to at which age a teen has full capacity to make a decision about taking chemicals to start transition is a tough one. Its an issue that applies to all medical procedures not just sex transition. We debate this over parents who do not want their children taking certain drugs for things like cancer or when it comes to trying to decide if a child should have the right to ask for no more treatments with a terminal illness, or when a minor is raped or impregnated and does not want a child or wants it but their parents do not.

These are yes complex issues but to run from them is not the solution.

Yes we have the same debates in Canada and all other countries.

So my suggestion to you would be that running from your fears will never solve them and may prove futile.

Next your country depends on people like you to use logic, identify what triggers your fears and find healthy ways to deal with them and make a stand and speak out when you feel it necessary as an individual or in an intrerest group and play a role in the solution to ignorance not running from if you can.

I sound presumptuous and arrogant and I do not mean to be. Clearly you must choose your comfort zone and how to deal with your fears not me but all I am saying is leaving the US won't help. The issues you fear are in all countries.

Look I have no right to tell you a damn thing. I just mean this to encourage you not to be afraid and to understand the country you live in gives you laws to protect you at the state and federal level from hate, discrimination and guarantees free speech. You may at this point not feel that way but those positives exist.

I hate everything Trump stands for but his issues if you listen carefully are not going to put you in jail or allow violence against you. If his comments are taken by haters to justify attacking anyone laws do prevail. Believe in your legal system. Believe in yourself.

Said with a smile not a pointing finger!

Yet a few years ago, nobody thought much about this at all and everything was fine.

Now it's an issue that has people attacking a small, marginalized group because we have a demagogue president who cranks up Christian Nationalists.

Trump ran on a strong anti-trans platform. You can't pretend otherwise. Why should the GOP let go of that campaign strategy when it so clearly worked for them?
Wrong.
He ran on a platform of stopping trans groomers from recruiting children, stopping taxpayer funded surgeries and injections and finally choosing to protect women.

It is not healthcare.
It is an elective choice to receive medical intervention in an attempt to change their gender.
I don't have a problem with someone ABOVE THE AGE OF 18 doing that - but taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for it

They do it for their health.

That's a very dangerous argument. All medical interventions are elective choices because the person making the decision elects to get them. Why aren't your medical interventions elective choices as well?

Wrong.
He ran on a platform of stopping trans groomers from recruiting children, stopping taxpayer funded surgeries and injections and finally choosing to protect women.

I literally have a quote from him where he says at any age. He literally ran on a platform of anti-LGBT rights to deny healthcare to people... at any age.

"Kamala is for they, them. President Trump is for you" is clearly anti-trans.

What he said at a rally is not representative of what he will do.
Politicians say all kinds of things to get elected.
He will stop tax payer dollars paying for elective surgeries/injections.
And he should

That is the dumbest strawman of 2024

No it's not. You're saying that it's elective without explaining how or why. From what I can gather the medical community has already decided the issue. Gender affirming care is something that will alleviate dysphoria. The best example of this working is the regret rate. The average regret rate for any surgery is around 15%. For GCS and other gender affirming care, it's less than 1%.

Not your call.

Taking RA meds is also elective.

Not your call.
Absolutely my call.
I actually pay taxes, realize many of you do not.
But I have for over 30 years.
And as a taxpayer - I have every right to vote for someone who is against using our money to pay for elective medical procedures.

Which is determined by politicians deciding what is elective and what is not elective.. which means that any surgery they deem elective can be outlawed... which means...transgender people will be denied healthcare because they reclassify it as elective.

This has become the worst hill to die on, 2024 election results should have revealed that.

You have zero proof of anything you say.
We can play tik-tac-toe all day posting up studies that say it does, and those who say it doesn't.
Some people have major psychological problems facing the damning changes of ageing. Particularly women. Taxpayer dollars do not support plastic surgery in attempts to make them look younger so they can alleviate their stress and depression.
If you support taxpayers paying for that, then you have to support it paying for any and all elective procedures.

Yes, he's a demagogue, but he's alsos given us judges who repress transgenders.

I know, but Trump won on it so he'll keep being a bigot about it.

You've proved my point for me. The messaging on all this issue has been nothing short of a disaster, and thanks to the "bigot" remark too many people have been litmus tested out of the younger liberal and progressive views on this.

Instead of talking about other issues the further to the left would rather champion this issue and it was no help.

You have no proof that gender affirming care is elective but you seemed quite eager to prevent people from getting it. Tell you what, when you provide something more than your conjunction I will listen to it. Until then, please remember that your medical interventions are as elective as mine are.

Surgery that allows people to be who they are is neccesar surgery. I wouldn't get too hung up about taxpayers paying for it, there are so few of them.

Standing up for human rights might not be popular, but it is neccesary.
