100% this. There's a trade off to everything, and the Marshall Plan was implemented because the idea was the US would have a hand and be seen as the reconstructor of countries ravaged by war. This not only helped the US diplomatically with its former foes, but laid the groundwork to have a voice in how countries developed politically so the conditions that led to WW2 would be much slimmer. That some think the US has been at some disadvantage post WW2 and fall of the USSR is laughably, and shows how grievance politics makes some oblivious to the broader picture. It's "penny smart, dollar dumb" mentality.
