Top three most important issues needing attention?

Water
Voting rights
Taxing the super wealthy and corporate america at a twenty percent rate.
Great idea! We can go from a Biden recession straight into a Biden depression.

It never ceases to amaze me how many poor people try to protect the wealthy. I kinda' look at it the other way around, the people with big money are ripping the rest of us off.
I'm neither "poor" nor stupid enough to think jealous and envy are legitimate reasons for taxation. If you want to punish corporations and rich people stop buying their goods and services. Go ahead, I dare you!

So childish.

Because increasing taxes by due process in a democratic society is not theft.

That was a softball...
The tyranny of the majority. I was hoping for better.

Then that means that you want to see the top rate, rise to between 37 and 94%.

That IS WHAT YOU SAID (in essence).

And that is absolutely ridiculous in that it is INCREDIBLY vague.

It's what he does. He never answers and he always claims rebuttals are evasions.

So childish.
You are projecting again.

By your estimation, any taxes are tyranny of the majority then. I don't think that has legs, my man.

They certainly can be.

Tell me again after 6 November.
On November 7, there will still be taxes. You guys lost this debate somewhere in the 18th century. Good luck.

All the plutocrats have to do is spread propaganda saying "Democrats are helping the rich and hate Americans" and they say "screw Democrats".

ABC reports, "For all the focus on what former President Donald Trump didn't do on Jan. 6, something he did -- a tweet calling then-Vice President Mike Pence a "coward," while Pence and his Secret Service detail had reason to fear for their lives -- might have brought the biggest political consequences inside the Republican Party.

"As Thursday night's prime-time hearing made clear, that move prompted anger and disgust from Trump aides -- "fuel on the fire," in the analogy employed by two who resigned in the immediate aftermath of Jan. 6.

"It also cemented a split between Trump and Pence that has implications for 2022 and 2024. It matters not just for who might be the next GOP presidential nominee -- it could easily be neither of them, though both could still run -- but because it resonates among Republicans who can't tolerate how Trump acted on and around Jan. 6.

"The hearing surfaced chilling radio traffic revealed by a national security official, with agents protecting Pence making "calls to say goodbye to family members." It also established that it was Pence ordering military assets to secure the Capitol, while Trump vented anger and expressed approval for "hang Mike Pence" chants."

It amazes me how any sane person could support Trump. We will never know how. They don't talk much other than trying desperately to change the subject. Most are from America's rural counties, and they are educationally disadvantaged. A good guess is, they don't know why they support Trump. We know they are ignorant of the Jan. 6 committee's proceedings.

The [Republican] Senate Intelligence Committee reaffirmed its support for the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election with the goal of putting Donald Trump in the Oval Office.
Putin could not be more proud of his protégé. A Russian agent provocateur could not have done a better job, and millions of Americans support the former President.

America fights back.

CNN reports, "The prime-time finale of the compelling and highly produced television saga otherwise known as the House January 6 hearings on Thursday presented a horror show of presidential dereliction of duty and a cliffhanger promise to return with even more damaging evidence against Donald Trump in September."

The committee "embroidered a broader narrative of an out-of-control President who put his own fantastical belief he won an election above more than two centuries of democratic tradition and the national interest. And, most chillingly, it is advancing a case – in the words of a key witness, retired conservative Judge J. Michael Luttig – that Trump remains “a clear and present danger” to US democracy."

CNN continued, "At the start of these hearings, it seemed a stretch that the committee could build a case with criminal implications for the ex-President. That could be changing. Some seasoned lawyers believe that the committee has indeed established evidence of intent by Trump to precipitate the horrendous events leading up to and on January 6 – an important component to any court case.

"But then there is the question of whether a potential prosecution of Trump, as a former President, would be in the national interest – since it could potentially rip even deeper partisan divides in an already internally estranged nation. Establishing a precedent that a former President could be liable to criminal action could be dangerous since it could be misused by future commanders-in-chief to go after their predecessors. These issues could become even more explosive since Trump may soon launch a presidential campaign that would make it easier for him to claim the investigation against him is politically motivated."

Putin is loving this.

Climate change
Right wing authoritarianism
Voter rights

Taxes, as such, are not the issue. It's punitive taxes, like the ones endorsed in this thread, that are the problem.

On 7 November 2022, there will be a different taxation outlook in Congress.

Nah, punitive taxes are a valuable and effective strategy. The only outlook that will change is yet another ill advised attempt to cut taxes mostly for rich donors to the GOP.

Inflation
Health care costs
Right to an abortion

Inflation is the biggest issue. Americans who are alive today have never experienced the horror of sustained inflation. We've only had a tiny, tiny taste so far.

That's the advantage of the combination of a large, diverse economy paired with a central bank.

Environment -Climate Change-Green Power

Voting Rights - Election Security

Reproductive Rights

If you had paid any attention, you would know that the 2017 tax cut was a sidelight to tax reform. That part worked very well.

How do you feel about the tax cuts in the BBB bill? Democrats wanted to raise or eliminate the cap on SALT (state and local tax) deductions. That only benefits the 1% and mostly in California, Illinois and New York.

An actual bill that gets passed is not a sidelight to vapid lip service.

Curious what others feel are the top 3 most important issues our elected representatives should be focused on resolving.
My 3 currently are:
1. Federal taxes and spending.
2. Immigration laws.
3. Women's abortion Rights.

1. Climate change
2. Campaign finance reform
3. Redistricting reform

I'd go for going back to 2017.

First thing Biden should have done is grab Manchin and get 2017 repealed no strings.

Instead he irritates everybody doing it piecemeal.

He shouldn't have promised the middle class, we need their chunk to balance the ledger.
We need to help the middle class not tax it. There is plenty of cash at the top. Warrens wealth tax alone will bring in over $4 Trillion in a decade and the wealthy will barely feel it.

Whatever.

Balance that budget and I can go to sleep.

Okay.

First, let's look at the current budget.

Our tax revenue? Consistently on the low end, for developed countries. here is Europe and the US:

Our spending? Consistently middle of the pack for developed countries, or usually lower. Again, Europe. In all years, we have been less than the European average:

Point being, we clearly have a "deficit" on one side of the books. And we need to address it. If we plan to remain a first world country, that is.
