A French scientist has apologized after tweeting a photo of a slice of chorizo, claiming it was an image of a distant star taken by the James Webb Space Telescope.

Étienne Klein, a celebrated physicist and director at France's Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, shared the image of the spicy Spanish sausage on Twitter last week, praising the "level of detail" it provided.

The only star we can image with such detail is the sun.
 
Well we can at least be thankful he didnt post a pic of his wiener and claim it was an alien.

It should be pointed out that he apparently did it as a joke to make some kind of point "to urge caution regarding images that seem to speak for themselves.".

It's not really an "Oops" beyond it probably spreading much wider than he expected and the joke not really landing as well as he might have hoped.
