Today is the anniversary of Obama signing the Affordable Care Act. trump wants to kill it.

No their real issue is that their lives didn’t go the way they thought they deserved, so they think that everyone else should suffer for their failure.
i think it goes much deeper than that but you're on the right path.

Single payer systems are empirically superior to our system. They provide better care at a fraction of the cost.
A hip is important to life. The ability to move is important to life. Caring for a non-ambulatory person is far more expensive in the long run that mending a hip..

The point is, there are other options. But we often go to the most expensive option because we can because we don't deal with the cost at the time of service.

What's funny is that "Obamacare will give grandma a pill instead of a pacemaker" (or, in your formulation, crutches instead of a hip replacement) was the disingenuous conservative knock against Obamacare.

In reality, seniors got the care they needed and Medicare costs were cut almost a trillion dollars below the baseline (far more than the ~$500 billion promised) in the ACA's first decade. And now the conservative "other option" is just denying people care.

Crutches are not another option nor is a wheel chair. A wheel chair may become necessary, but people should keep walking as long as possible. A large percentage of people who need knee surgery cannot manage crutches.

Well, not having mobility is in fact a cheaper alternative to having it!

Our system is more expensive because it’s a for profit system. Single payer systems provide better quality care at a fraction of the cost.

Again these right wingers don’t care if someone is in a wheelchair, well until it is them. Then their hand miraculously reaches out.

Profit is not the deciding factor in price.

Wow. So you think no one can pay their own bills unless the government does it for them?

Do you even know why we have expensive health care? And don't say that uneducated line "greedy xxx", because that ain't it.
Because private insurance companies skim 25% off the top Medicare does an amazingly good job and we would be well served to have this cover everyone. The total outlay would be far, far less than we pay now for our HC.

But we're too stupid to do that because we'd be branded (gasp!) 'socialists.'

Psssst, yes it is. Not the only factor, mind you, but the single biggest one.

Price is determined by the market. Profit is determined by price minus cost.

Name one socialist regime that didn't subjugate the citizens.

Aren't they? A hip isn't necessary to life. Alternatives exist like crutches, wheen chairs or even managing the pain. Just because a hip isn't healthy doesn't mean it has to be replaced.
This post is stupid...really, really stupid. Do better.

Grateful to have logged into the Obamacare website for yet another year and chosen the health and dental plans for my family. As we have done EVERY YEAR since the ACA went into effect.

Not having to worry about preexisting conditions. (Which would preclude us from having insurance)

Grateful that as small business owners we are able to access healthcare thanks to the markets. I didn’t have to stay employed in a corporate job to keep insurance for my family!

Grateful the state of NJ has fully participated and there are LOTS of options available to choose from.

We have a very nice, “Cadillac” level plan with vision care AND also dental care plans. At very reasonable monthly cost and with very reasonable copays, out of pocket and maximum out of pocket costs.

Thank you former POTUS Obama and current POTUS Biden for the ACA.

Remember one very important thing in this debate. Conservatives don’t give a shit about you or your health. They have no plan to create a better healthcare plan. They truly believe that if you can afford health insurance then buy it. If not, don’t get sick. And if you do get sick, well……you’re ****ed.

Norway, Finland, Sweden and, in many ways, any western European country.

No, I said socialist countries:

That’s pretty much what Marx and Engels came up with in the 19th century. If you’re looking for a country that matches this definition, your search won’t take you to northern Europe. The simple fact is that Scandinavian countries are not, by any reasonable definition, socialist.

Arguably the most important political and budget story of the last 15 years, yet it gets essentially zero ink or public discussion.

Really wild that after all the press and attention every single hysterical right wing claim (and laughably wrong prediction) about the ACA got for years and years, the mind-boggling fact that in reality relative health care costs haven't risen in fifteen years is apparently insufficiently sexy.

It's not fear or tragedy. So it doesn't sell.

You know, it just helps American families. Who cares about that?
