Tips for Terrorist Rehab Group Leaders

Paul said in Ephesians, that the wife was meant to act respectfully to her husband. The husband was intended to be loving to the wife.

Counseling costs money and other resources. Saudi Arabia has taken on some terrorist rehabilitation assignments. How can more rehabilitation counseling be arranged for terrorists, or soon-to-become terrorists? What about counseling for women who live in communities where terrorists are found?

Is the funding of rehab sessions too controversial for Israel to fund terrrist counseling programs? Does funding for rehab of Hamas have to come from other countries, or other resources?

One therapeutic approach for difficult-to-rehabilitate offenders is Attack Therapy. Used in the US for treating drug addiction.

This is where group leaders criticize group members, and encourage the members to defend against verbal attacks, to build character and self-confidence. Attack Therapy can be carried too far, and a good support structure is needed for success.

There have been complaints that some US rehab programs did not provide sufficient support for the amount of Attack Therapy used. Programs such as Ivy Ridge in New York in the early 2000'S.

"Jobs are critical for economic growth, poverty reduction, peace and social stability in the Palestinian Territories. The current economic situation in the Palestinian Territories (PT) has gone from bad to worse, reaching a critical stage before it becomes a true humanitarian crisis, particularly in Gaza. Real GDP growth contracted by 1.3 percent in the second quarter of 2018—the Gaza’s economy shrank by 6.1 percent. Close to one-third of the population live below the poverty line, but poverty already affects half of the population in Gaza. And the PT continues to be affected by conflict, both internal as well as with Israel. Creating more and better jobs is central to the strategy to boost economic growth, reducing poverty and achieving peace and stability in the PT."

"The punishment process emerges as a factor contributing to the exploration of alternatives to imprisonment as does the growing support for a new approach to the concept of punishment and the increasing cost of imprisonment in contrast to relatively less expensive alternatives. Existing alternatives to imprisonment include: allowing offenders to remain in their natural surroundings by incorporating a treatment process into the normal lifestyle, that is, a probation order issued by the court, community service, and electric monitoring; permitting offenders to remain in their natural surroundings by introducing changes in occupational activities such as service work and day centers, and, finally, moving offenders to either a residential facility or a hostel. Changes in attitude among the members of the law enforcement community, social service professionals, and the public as well as greater flexibility in the transfer of resources and increased cooperation between law enforcement and offender treatment and rehabilitation agencies all facilitated Israel's extension of alternatives to prison."

Ideas for Counseling discussion questions;

1. What is the role you would like for imprisonment to play in your life?

2. What constructive activities would you like to see in your life after prison?

3. What role do you see a loving relationship playing in your future?

4. What promises have you made to Hamas?

5. What principles do the Hamas leaders expect militants to follow?

6. What principles of Hamas do you need to ignore or modify, to keep out of jail?

7. What phrases can you use to speak up that you are intending to be a law-abiding Palestinian, and support other Palestinians to become law abiding?

8. What approaches can I use to get along better, with Israelis?
