I think the Hitler confiscation of guns was an entirely unrelated event: Since the German army was never really properly demobilized after the armistice, due to the chaos resulting from the abdication of the Kaiser, there were alot of people running around with weapons left over from the "Great War"..................

The Weimar Republic has lax gun laws, which allowed Hitler's brown shirts to destroy democratic elections by shooting opponents. If the WR has strong gun laws, Hitler never would have taken power.

You can take all of that with a massive gain of salt. Hitler was not a fan of the German Republic, but here he's calling for nothing for all practical purposes. You might as well say that for all intents and purposes he's just calling to rename the Army to something else. Its like if a stereotypical Soviet looks at a slum and decides to rename it "People's Glorious Housing Unit," ya it has a better ideological name but its still the same slum. Just like Hitler "We don't have a regular Army we have a national people's Army," ok sure but it still looks like the same damn thing but with more swastikas.
