"As alleged, the defendant threatened an elected official by leaving a series of increasingly alarming anti-Muslim messages with the office of Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. The defendant told the assemblyman to go back to Uganda before someone shoots him in the head, to keep an eye on his house and family, to watch his back every second until he leaves America, and that he and his relatives deserve to die."

Some of the messages he left include:
“Hey Zohran, you should go back to f*cking Uganda before someone shoots you in the f*cking head and gets rid of your whole f*cking family, too. You piece of sh*t Muslims don’t belong here.”

No. We can't have a healthy discussion without disagreement. That's ANY discussion. I mean we can't have a healthy discussion about what to have for lunch without being able to accept the fact that not everybody is going to be on the same page and that damned sure applies to politics too. Where it goes off the rails is when some asshole decides that he or she holds the only opinion that matters and then starts threatening those that disagree with them...or shooting them.

If Mamdani can't handle people calling him a commie then he needs to find another career. If they're wrong then he should have the intellectual wherewithal to explain in a rational and convincing manner why they are wrong. He should even be able to do that when the accuser is coming up with crazy shit out of left field. Just because someone doesn't agree with you DOES NOT mean that person is a physical threat to you. That works the other way too. Just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean that person you disagree with is a physical threat to you.

When ANYONE starts acting like they're going to start some physical shit over a disagreement THEN you need to start looking for a physical threat and the meathead making these phone calls certainly fit that category. Along the same lines, just because you believe in that someone might start shit doesn't mean that's a rational belief. For example, if you see someone walking through the parking lot with a MAGA hat and believe that person is going to kill you so you shoot them or run them over with your car you are going to go to jail, deservedly so, because if the hat was the ONLY reason for your fear then you're not being rational. Same applies if they're wearing a rainbow unicorn hat and you're afraid they're going to rape you. It isn't rational so rein yourself in before you do something stupid and get yourself in trouble.

One of the MAJOR problems we've got these days is that so many idiots out there believe their own bullshit to such an extent that they can no longer handle disagreement. Personally, I think a lot of that stems from the "everybody gets a participation trophy" mentality we've been dealing with for a couple of decades now. Maybe that's exacerbated by the social media crap too but it's getting pretty ****ing bad and it needs to stop.
