Comments Tim Walz’s wife, Gwen Walz, made about the 2020 George Floyd protests are resurfacing. Walz, who was tapped as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate on Tuesday, was governor of Minnesota when the demonstrations took place in the state’s capitol. “Again we had more sleepless nights during the riots… I could smell the burning tires, and that was a very real thing. I kept the windows open as long as I could because I felt like that was such a touchstone of what was happening,” Gwen Walz told KTSP in June 2020. According to the New York Post, Tim Walz’s response to the Black Lives Matter protests is being reexamined as he joins the Democratic ticket. No matter what may have transpired it in no way absolved the President of the United States from acting THAT DAY as the riots unfolded.....nothing. He had a duty and responsibility to act to protect the Capitol and those inside and he chose not to in violation of his oath of office....and that's the facts!

Trump’s 2024 campaign, responding to CNN’s request about his 2020 praise for Walz and the details of the call, said that he was only complimentary of the Minnesota governor given that by June 1, Walz “had acted.” They argued, however, that Trump had always been frustrated that Walz hadn’t taken more action sooner.


Walz first activated the Guard on May 28, three days after Floyd was killed, and the same day protesters lit the outside of the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct on fire.


“The important thing here is the timing and context for these remarks. He was complimenting a governor that finally, after days of madness, had finally done something. So it wasn’t in real time. It was after Walz finally did something about it,” a senior Trump campaign adviser told CNN.
