Interesting development over the weekend. Some NYT reporter badgered Tiger on Trump.

Here's the scene. Tiger just finishes 72 holes. Tired, I am sure. And, instead of asking the man how he felt about his game or why he could not putt for ****, this douche starts asking him how he feels about Trump.

To his credit, Tiger did not take the bait. He answered the questions, but certainly not the way the reporter expected.

But, that's not quite what this thread is about. The real story is the reaction from some in the sports media.

Tiger Woods' 'respect the office' statement about Trump blasted by ESPN host Max Kellerman | Fox News

Kellerman blasted Woods’ remarks, saying it was a “thoughtless statement dressed up as a thoughtful statement.”

“And it either holds in contempt the intelligence of people who hear it or else it’s just a stupid thing to say. … To say you must have respect for the office — Tiger, be clear. Are you saying that the office, therefore, confers respect on to its present temporary occupant? No. Having respect for the office means principally, in my view, is the office holder should have respect for the office,” he said.
Dude, give it a rest. The man is entitled to his opinion. And, if he chooses to stay neutral, that's his business too.

Stephen A Smith went even further. 'Not Black', Stephen A Smith Says

Really? Come on now, Stephen A. Don't be a moron.

Personally, when it comes to the current occupant of the White House, I agree with LeBron James. "Trump is a bum." Do I want more people to call the man a bum? Yes. Do I think you're not Black or you're stupid for not calling him a bum? No.

Note: just so there is no confusion, there is a difference between supporting Trump and simply refusing to call him a bum. I don't want people thinking I suddenly love Trump supporters. What Tiger said in no way supports Trump.

I agree. Tiger has hundreds of millions, obviously he is serving his own interests by supporting Trump. Trump has already given him yuge with the Tax Cuts.

And I can't imagine Trump and the Republicans not robbing the defecit a second time with more yuge tax cuts. That would be as strange as Trump voluntarily closing Trump "University". So Tiger likely figures he will benefit yuge again.

It's America, people vote for various reasons. Some vote to preserve their status. Others vote to give someone else a chance at the pie. Some people speak up, like James. Others play it quite like Woods.

If I am Tiger, I stfu and play golf. If I am LeBron, I speak out. It's all about the audience. No flock of Trumpeteers are going to scream hate at a player during a basketball game. This would not be the case on a golf course.

If Kellerman said those things about Obama, he would branded a racist and he would unemployed. Because it was directed at trump he will be hailed as a hero by those same people.

Obama wasn't a POS like Trump. Trump really is a bum. Obama is a good man.

Yeah, this thing about Tiger and Trump is just blown up to outrageous proportions. The reporters are being no different than Trump in indulging in Reality-TV level drama. Tiger gave his opinion, ask the man about golf, move on. We got enough to worry about without having to manufacture some outrage.

It was just weird. Guy just finishes professional golfing tournament, ask him about Trump. WTF?

I could see it if this was a long one on one interview; in a studio or at his home. But, the guy was literally walking off the course.

And then the ESPN dude going off on it...I'm not watching ESPN for political commentary. Tell me why the Bears are awesome and the Cubs are going to win the World Series and move the flub on. Quit injecting politics into it. ESPN personalities are not political pundits, we have enough "news" networks for that. Sports networks just need to stick with sports.

Thread is not about Obama. I know, I know, it's the common tactic to cry "but...but....but....Obama". But...but....but try to stay on target instead.

You don't understand the left. Tiger is not entitled to his opinion even if he was white, but he is also not entitled to his opinion for another reason - he is black. All blacks must be anti Trump and vote for democrats or face the consequences. I sure Tiger will take a lot of ****, but he's got money and can weather the storm. No so much the poor schlub working two jobs to keep his family together.

Man, the left must really be conflicted all of a sudden. Here's a black guy, who must be supported by default because he's black, yet he signaled that he doesn't hate Trump. Will he now be relegated to the plantation with Ben Carson, Clarence Thomas and so many others?

Especially when the real story on Tiger is his attempt to be relevant again, ON THE ****ING GOLF COURSE.

Interesting knee-jerk reaction is noted.

Anyone working two jobs to keep his family together, black or white, is an idiot if they voted for Trump. But, America has a lot of idiots. So, it comes as no surprise.

Even if what Tiger said supports President Trump, it's still just Tiger's opinion, and Tiger is by no means an expert on politics.

I'm sick of the whole PC and the Trump bad crap.

I don't think it's that hard at all. In fact, the entire premise of the thread is that asking Tiger about Trump during a golf tournament, and trying to turn it into some big deal because he didn't come out and bash Trump, is completely ridiculous.

First drink!

**I knew it was bound to come up and wasn't disappointed by who did. :lamo

No, it's a logical question considering how the left treats any blacks who stray from the orthodoxy.

How exactly is it logical?

I am sure by your opinion I am "da left" yet I still support Woods' opinion and even Kanye West. So yeah, "the left" doesn't just treat people a certain way, people treat people a certain way.

Sorry. Tiger already lost most of his shine. Him palling around with Trump ain't about black or white. It's about the "we're rich and so it doesn't matter how scummy we are, we have to stick together" mentality.

Do you think before posting?

You have accused me of being "left" countless times, but yet here is this "lefty," by your own identification, who opposes the idea of criticizing Tiger for his honest answer to a stupid question asked at the very worst possible moment.

Man, you could not have failed harder if you tried.

The difference is Trump energizes part of his base by attacking blacks and other non-Whites, Obama never tried to energize his base using racism. So as usual it's all about the context. And as usual it goes "whoosh!" over some peoples heads in their rush to whataboutism.

The resistatard movement is growing out of control. Huh?
