Good point. Leftist governments start with "absolutely terrible" and plunge downward from there. An easy way to divide them is to ask, "Did this particular leftist government murder millions, or just thousands?" Now we see that the claim is indeed true, Castro was no match for Stalin.

So when Anarchists like the Black Bloc riot and attack people, I can blame that on Rightwingers?

Republicans want pretty big government, or al least they want a hundred million in governments to fit in every bedroom in America, does that mean they are Leftwing?

After the soviet union fell russia has had minimal influence on cuba, infact cuba had to suffer mass starvation without the soviet union propping them up, almost 30 years later cuba has long since become independant of russia and the soviet union, and has drifted away from communism. They are still allied with russia today even after the soviet union collapsed, but wihtout the soviet unions big bucks cuba had to learn to be independant.

I just saw a clip of protesters in the street.

They are very brave people, indeed.

Or were they allowed to do that by someone influential in the current government? I understand that Raul is also about to retire, so maybe some of the younger members of the dictatorship are fighting to take his place.

Of course, it would never have happened when Fidel was alive.

Since his death, there has been some "liberalization" in some areas.

As they say, when people think there is no hope of reform (as when Fidel was in charge), they are passive, but when they think that there is some hope of change (ever since Raul took over), they start to get restless and feel that change is possible.

Sure hope that the American Administration does the right thing.

It would be so wonderful to see Cuba become a democracy.

I remember when the Castro Brothers seized Cuba in 1959, for that was the year that I was graduated from college.
