I know this was included in a Susan Collins thread I posted previously, but it deserves another post. Look at this ad. This is what will win back Democratic seats and ultimately the Presidency. If I didn't know this guy was a Democrat I would swear he was MAGA. Except he actually has a platform.

He certainly has the cultural aesthetic to be a good candidate. And the issues he mentioned in his commercial are a good choice...he stuck to popular, high-salience issues instead of getting bogged down in unpopular or extreme culture war stuff. I don't know anything about him besides this ad, but it seems like a good start!

You mean a Democrat who can actually win a competitive Senate seat?
And then be a complete failure. Yeah that’s what I’m talking about.

What even prompted this comparison? Are you saying this guy will be a failure because he doesn't wear a suit in his campaign ad? 🤔

More talk a good game and then leave it at home.

He has the "everyman" vibe that is needed to move the Democrats forward. The holier-than-thou, soft, intelligent approach will not work.

I don’t know about that.

Fishermen tend to be a different breed.

I don’t know this guy and will have to go look him up. But I know fishermen. Most of them are about as salt of the earth type as you can get. I believe this guy actually means what he says at first glance - because my experience with fishermen matches up with what he says. I’ll have to go see what more I can find out about him. I’ve not heard of him until now.

Now, when it gets into cultural issues…he’s likely going to be more moderate. 🤷‍♀️. Fetterman is also. Most blue collar guys in that age range are. You can have reasonable conversations with them and sway them to be more progressive - but you better come with a good case and reason for them to even want the government involved in it in the first place.

That he’s championing universal healthcare and using words like “oligarchy” and saying “try to have a family” lend me to believe he leans more progressive. 🤷‍♀️

I don’t see Fetterman as a complete failure.

I see Fetterman as someone that kept a Senate seat out of the hands of the likes of someone like Dr Oz.

Not every state is going to elect a “Bernie” style progressive. Maine is a really unique state, including in how they have ranked choice voting, etc.

Susan Collins seat is vulnerable. There are a LOT of potential candidates.

It will be interesting to see how that race shakes out. This guy may be interesting.

How does he feel about FISA reform?

Good ad. I don't know who he is, but I imagine he has Susan Collins feeling deeply concerned.

That “platform” seemed to be having ‘universal’ (single-payer?) medical care insurance and a higher (federal) minimum wage (MW). BTW, the MW wage in Maine is $14.65/hour.

He made no mention of allowing biological males to ‘self-identify’ as females to compete in sports, illegal aliens, tariffs, federal income tax rates (to fund his “Medicare For All”?), saving social security or the rising national debt.

Asked who he believes is the face of the Democratic Party, Platner said there isn't one, but he indicated an affinity for some of the most progressive members of the Senate.

He said he admires the former Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and respects Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I.

Huh. Seems like an interesting fella. Gotta read up about him a little more.

He's the Dan Osborn of Tim Ryans.

So why not link to his platform in the OP so we can read it?

I read it, and there is nothing in it that will lower the cost of living for people in Maine. It's all just what you would expect from an establishment democrat: higher taxes, Gaia worship, unions, rich people are evil, more money for failing government schools, and keep subsidizing demand for things that are already very expensive.

The democrat party is doomed. Thank goodness you people are incapable of learning from your mistakes.

For my part, 2026 will be my first election in Maine.

I should probably not be glib and pay attention.
