My son lives in the Auburn/Opelika AL area. He called me earlier to say "ICE was in town yesterday". My son and his fiance are "filthy libs" so I almost expected to hear tales of ICE chasing down people in the Home Depot parking lot, but this was legit stuff.

Now that's some serious criming, and I'm all for getting the criminal element out of our midst, immigrants or Americans.

OK, so 40 people were apparently guilty of wanting to work in the USA so badly that they went to work for the wrong people.

3 actual criminals were arrested and a bunch of Mexican restaurants shut down. The taxes all those workers paid to the federal government will now stop being paid. The money they paid into Social Security will stop getting paid in. The money they paid for Medicare will stop getting paid. The money they spent in the USA as consumers will stop getting spent.

This will all raise the Debt/ GDP ratio of the USA.

Money will be spent policing, apprehending and detaining them, and deporting them. This will put additional upward pressure on the American Debt/GDP ratio.

All of this because they were making tacos while brown.

Big Orange TACO not like this. He the TACO man now.

That's the thing about these quotas. They've been pulled out of Steve Miller's butthole. There are not that many criminals to make up 3000 a day in arrests. Most undocumented immigrants only want to work and stay out of trouble. And here's the ridiculous thing. The people who have registered, and are staying in touch with ICE while they work and contribute to the economy? They are the low hanging fruit for ICE to fill their arbitrary 3000/day quota. The ones who crossed illegally and never registered? They are tougher to find. So they are the ones who get to stay here. We are kicking out the good ones, while the bad ones get to stay.

Trump's maga ICE is kicking the good ones out but the bad ones are still here.

Stupid. That's not making America great. That makes America stupid.

Good. And yup, this is what they need to concentrate on.

OK, so 40 people were apparently guilty of wanting to work in the USA so badly that they went to work for the wrong people.
Congress passed a law that says those 40 people are not allowed to work in this country for anyone.
The taxes all those workers paid to the federal government will now stop being paid. The money they paid into Social Security will stop getting paid in. The money they paid for Medicare will stop getting paid. The money they spent in the USA as consumers will stop getting spent.
So your position is that people can pay to violate the law. How much is that, per person? Or is it per company? Is that payment described in the law Congress passed?
Money will be spent policing, apprehending and detaining them, and deporting them. This will put additional upward pressure on the American Debt/GDP ratio.
You make a point. We shouldn't spend money "policing, apprehending and detaining" them. In fact, maybe we shouldn't spend that money on anyone. Why don't we just defund the police? Do you think that'd be a good idea?
All of this because they were making tacos while brown.
Nope. It's because they broke our laws when they entered the country and the broke our laws while in the country. If you think what they did shouldn't be against the law,, write to your representatives in Congress.

We have lawmakers because laws need to change. But the lawmakers don't serve us. They serve the rich. The rich have co-opted maga by fanning the flames of xenophobia. We need to replace our lawmakers with Anti-Corruption people who will actually represent the voters. We can have better candidates if we send the message that we are tired of having our government bought by billionaires. We send that message by passing local non binding resolutions in support of the American Anti Corruption Act.

That should be pretty easy. After all. Who wants to take a public position in favor of corruption?

Do you support America having a corrupt government that serves the rich first?

Is your desire to be rid of 'the illegals' that strong that you don't care if our government is bought?

That is the position the right wing billionaires want the maga followers to take.

Where in the Constitution does it say our government is for sale? Where does it say that big money should get a permanent tax break but the rest only get teased with a temporary one? Is maga so easily distracted with xenophobia that it will sell out our government to a bunch of billionaires? Apparently, the answer is yes.

The law prohibiting illegal aliens from being employed in this country IS a change. It wasn't always this way.

Like Mamdani in New York?
We can have better candidates if we send the message that we are tired of having our government bought by billionaires.
Got it! "Fight oligarchy," eh? AOC, who shouts that, spent almost $17 million in the 23-24 cycle.

You want politicians to limit the amount of money that they can spend to keep their jobs? I want some of what you're smoking.
Do you support America having a corrupt government that serves the rich first?
I gather you have no idea where our tax money is spent. Or, I suspect, how the economy functions.
Is your desire to be rid of 'the illegals' that strong that you don't care if our government is bought?
Umm, sorry, but you're the one who wants the alleged tax money from illegals to buy them immunity from the law.

And Mamdani, AOC and Bernie are the answer, right?

These answers are so facetious there is no point in addressing them. Mostly just a bunch of whataboutism attempting to avoid the points I made.

The "points you made" are just a typical "Progressive," that is, far left, script. They show that you don't understand the roles of various income level people in our economy or what the government does with our taxes. It's mostly a "hate the rich" screed. Of course my comments are mostly facetious.

Oh, they're still finding time to ruin the lives of perfectly decent people. From your source:

"Trinity Alexander, senior in public relations and intern at a local boutique in Tiger Town, witnessed an ICE raid at Como En Casa during her lunch break. While driving by the restaurant, she saw a large Auburn PD presence and several unmarked, black SUVs. Alexander said the black SUVs resembled reports of other ICE raids reported across the country.

“When I first saw it, I got like this knot in my stomach, because all I could feel was empathy for those employees,” Alexander said. “All I could think about was how scared they must have been, and how sad it is that these are hard working people just trying to make a living for themselves and their families, and they're under such fire right now for what's going on in our country. And it's so different hearing about it on national news versus seeing it firsthand in your own community. It's just a really eerie feeling.”"

I don't know how it is to be on the far right, how one justifies supporting a ruthless greedy criminal con man sexual predator who is making China great again and running the US debt up to the moon. You've provided a glimpse. Apparently it is not possible to be sincere and honest in a discussion with a Progressive. Instead, the technique is to pretend being Progressive is something fake which requires placing the word in quotes as if it is not a real view. I assure you Progressive is a genuine view. It is arrived at, not by rumor, or heavily slanted right wing propaganda parading as news, but from multiple sources of credible information. By thinking for oneself, and caring about other people who may be different and having a very tough time.

I suppose this same technique of avoiding talking about real issues raised and instead delving into counterattack diversions is used throughout the view, making it possible to support our government being absolutely disgusting and cruel to the powerless migrant who only wishes for a better life. One who is willing to work any job regardless if whether it requires working outside in the heat in dangerous conditions with no healthcare, no benefits, no time off, no breaks, no bathrooms, for very low pay which contributes to our economy. It hurts America to spend money to end this form of productivity and contribution to revenue and the GDP out of simple and sad xenophobia.

I don't know how it is to block out all of the tons of negative information readily available on Donald Trump, from his very troubled childhood of parental neglect, which set in motion his lifelong insatiable need for attention. I read a book on him (which I doubt you would never do) written by a relative of his, his own niece Mary Trump, who is a well educated Psychologist, called: "Too Much And Never Enough: How My Family Created The World's Most Dangerous Man." It gives great insight into why Donald Trump suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. (a very real condition - look it up - it describes Donald to a T.)

Donald Trump has no friends. He lacks the ability to love or respect people because he does not love nor respect himself. He was not loved by his parents. Instead, he was tragically neglected. So great was his need for simple attention as a child that he became a bully just to get attention. He acted up in school and had to be sent to military school after he sucker-punched a teacher. He tormented his brother. He once glued his brothers Legos together so they could no longer be played with. It was a cry for attention. His mother was frequently ill, and lacked the capacity to properly discipline Donald. When he would pull stunts like that his mother, who feared him, would tell him to just wait until his father got home. But his father was a workaholic obsessed with wealth who rarely got home before 10PM. By then, his father would not reprimand nor punish Donald. Instead, Donald learned that he could at least get some attention by being an asshole. That is why Donald is a bully to this day.

Donald believes the world is made up of two kinds of people. Winners and losers. He wants to be a winner and he figures it doesn't matter how you conduct yourself as long as you win. Laws are mere obstacles to seek a way around. He lacks the capacity to understand right and wrong. He thinks right is what you can get away with and wrong is what you can't. He disrespects himself because he always had the advantage of big money so he never had to make it on his own like everyone else.

Knowing all this and much more about Donald Trump makes it impossible for me to support him. He stands for everything wrong with this country. The unfair power flexing of the rich that has resulted in the out of control federal debt, slashing of crucial government services for the needy, and the rich cutting their own taxes even as the debt is totally ignored. We have to get the big money influence out of our government and return true representation to We, The People. Donald Trump's ego is so over-inflated he seeks to be king or god, whatever. He does not respect his followers. He thinks his followers are total morons, idiots that he can take advantage of, because that's what he does. He thinks he is a winner, and everyone else who isn't him is a loser. He's got power and wealth so he doesn't need love and friendship. He's wrong and a very sad man causing great misery in millions, even death, but he doesn't care because he lacks the capacity to care. It is a great mistake, very unpatriotic, to support him. Giving him power hurts America. He belongs in prison. America will be lucky if we don't slip into fascism because of him. I absolutely must be part of the millions who oppose Trump and MCGA. [Make China Great Again.] (Because that is want maga is really doing.)

What an excellent Progressive response! Ignore the illegal acts being committed and focus on the poor migrants here illegally.
I am so glad we make tacos at home and are not brown.
But I am 25% Hispanic and feel for any Hispanic who sneaked into this country because hapless Biden and Mayorkas looked the other way.
The illegal aliens have a pathway back to their countries and can come back legally if they choose to do so.

No they can't unless they've got a lot of money then they can.

I don't know how it is to be on the far right,
Nor do I, since I'm not on the far right. My criticism of Progressives (no quotes, although I think the label is intentionally misleading) is that it seems to operate on two bases The first, of course, is OPM - Other People's Money. The left in general is just too big on income redistribution, and in ways that don't work. No matter what the problem is, the left calls out to throw money at it. When that fails, they demand that more money be thrown at the same problem. When asked how that's to be paid for, they weep and wail about "tax cuts for the rich" as if more money would solve the problem and they'd have it if only the rich "paid their fair share." Of course, fair share is never defined; it's just "more."

The second basis for the left is feelings. Now, I don't know if they really even give a damn about their causes, but they seem to be more motivated by good intentions and feelings than by results. It seems that it's more important to them to be seen as saviors of various groups than to ever elevate those groups beyond then point where saving is necessary.

Donald Trump has no friends.
I couldn't possibly be less interested in your armchair psychiatry. People who are professionals in that field are able to put their personal feelings aside with respect to the objects of their thinking, but the left is so obsessed with hatred for Trump that there is no possibility of clear thinking. The result has been the demonization to such an excess that it builds and increases support for him. The left cannot understand how others could possibly support, and vote for, someone the left hates so much. Like so many of their projects, it turns out to be self-defeating. And yet, as you post demonstrates so well, it's all the left has.

There. No (or only a few) quotation marks, and lots of words. None of it, or all the words allowed, will change your thinking at all, but I guess it makes for better discussion, to you.

Knowing all this and much more about Donald Trump makes it impossible for me to support him.
What you may know about Trump has nothing to do with why you won't support him. Simply put, you are ideological opposites. Nothing he or anyone at his place on the political spectrum could possibly do would satisfy you. You go on at some length to show that, "He's got power and wealth so he doesn't need love and friendship." What in the hell could you possibly care if he has friends or not? Many people in positions of power have few or no friends. Again, you on the left are obsessed with feelings and think, if you only care (and spend enough OPM) all will be well.

Of course, Progressives have a delusion that their caring makes them some sort of superior people. I'm quite content for you to feel that way. Personally, I'm more interested in results and your type doesn't produce them. The poor still are poor and poorly educated, and still contaminated by the crime among and against them. One of the reasons is interesting.

You have feelings for the laboring class, so you develop labor unions. That gives that class power against "the rich" and you feel good about it. Of course, that power and the collective wealth of those unions gives them control over you and your political organizations. Their interests are their own power and, secondarily, the preservation of their members' jobs (only to maintain the union bosses power). So the teachers' unions evolve. As their power over the Party that spawned them increases, the quality of education in this country deteriorates. The poor are still more poorly educated, perpetuating the poverty, crime and drug problems among them, but - by God - the unions thrive.

Now, you've done your job. The bosses - us - have been beat, the teachers have job security, but education keeps getting worse. ("Gosh, if only we could spend more money on it...") You feel better, but the object of the exercise moves more and more toward failure.

Progressivism fails. Always. It grows like a cancer on the left, but it always fails.

Reminder: Abducting someone without a warrant is a bigger crime than being here without a visa.

Since the establishment Dems show little or no will to fight MAGA insanity beyond petitions and Chuck's "strongly worded letters" it now falls to the rest of the Dems.
You folks are obsessed with namecalling them but the fact is, there's only one or maybe two FAR Left progressives, but to you everything outside of Trumplandia is already communist.
So there is no point in even arguing with any of you in MAGA-ville, you're allergic to reality.

But the fact is, what's showing to work in the Democratic Party is unlike anything before.
The identity driven stuff is taking a back seat to flushing out the dead wood and fighting to reverse the damage done by Trump's second term so far.
Next to that is a demand for justice.

Reminder: Abducting someone without a warrant is a bigger crime than being here without a visa.
Reminder. ICE goes where they go because of a warrant to arrest one or more specific people. In some situations they also encounter people who are in the process of breaking the law (for example, being unlawfully employed) and arrest them. A warrant isn't required to arrest someone in the process of breaking the law.

Crossing the border without authorization is a misdmeanor
Secondly, the City of Cudahy in Los Angeles is the mecca for spanish speaking street gangs, and of the 18th Street and White Fence groups, about 75 to 80 percent of them are illegals AND have long rap sheets. There is no excuse for the fact that ICE has still refused to sweep Cudahy and the other gang neighborhoods....ZERO.
If they focused on that not only would both Right AND Left cheer it would also make Trump look good.

Instead they are arresting normal generally law abiding hard working people, grandmothers, children, legal green card holders, and in some cases even citizens.
To a large extent they are engaged in mass denial of basic constitutional rights to most of the people they hold, some for days, weeks, even months.

You people are as allergic to facts and reality as your German counterparts were all through the Thirties and Forties.

And here's the kicker, they have yet to top the numbers of either Biden or Obama, both of whom did it the regular way.

eyes open.webp
