and I say bullshit!

Brendan Carr said on Thursday: "We're going to continue to hold these broadcasters accountable to the public interest - and if broadcasters don't like that simple solution, they can turn their license in to the FCC."

this is "big gov" threating companies. plain and simple

Consequences for what?

Consequences for what?

The government did not fire Kimmel, Disney, whom he worked for, his boss, fired him for costing them business.
and people are delusional if they believe that.

it says it right here with a direct threat: Brendan Carr said on Thursday: "We're going to continue to hold these broadcasters accountable to the public interest - and if broadcasters don't like that simple solution, they can turn their license in to the FCC."

but you can keep your head in the sand

(y) Yeah, thanks. It was kind of rhetorical. It's the thread of govt consequences for exercising free speech.

Democrats are living in a world that they created.

The government demanded that Disney fire Kimmel. “The easy way or the hard way.”

Why be so public about it? Just send in FBI some agents to help them moderate their content. ;)

The government has just been suing companies that don’t do what they say for billions of dollars.

Carr's just going along with Project 2025 (The MAGA Little Red Book)

From Google's AI "mode":

  • Regulate content: It seeks to leverage the FCC's licensing authority to pressure broadcasters over perceived anti-conservative bias. The new administration has already launched investigations into network news outlets.
  • Redefine "public interest": The proposals indicate a shift in how the FCC interprets its "public interest" mandate to align with conservative values, including enforcement against content considered "partisan" or "biased".

The government is not supposed to be giving anyone consequences for free speech.
The FCC guidelines for use of their government leased airwaves makes the users subject to any regulation the FCC sees fit.

You cannot use swear words for example. You all know this, right? Cable programs have more freedom.

"Being mean to Trump" isn't part of the FCC's "Bad list"

At least, it wasn't prior to January 21st.

swear words, yes. Political threats, YES!

Did Kimmel use swear words in the clip that triggered the FCC chair to push for his termination?

I have come to the conclusion there are no libertarians on this site.

You should be arguing this is a good example why the government should not be given control of the broadcast spectrum, and everyone should broadcast whatever the **** they want at any time on any frequency without sanction.

Trump is a wannabe mobster.
His natural instinct is to leverage everything he can to win.
No thought to moral or ethical, or even legal concerns.
He wants something, he should get it.
He imagines he is a king.

I was making a point that the FCC can regulate what is said.

Right. The idea that left wingers should be accountable for their words and actions is insane. We all know that left wingers are perfected people so when someone suggests that they should suffer consequences that's merely oppressing the perfect in life. The same applies to right wingers who should be held to account by the perfect people for EVERYTHING they say, do and think. We can never have a perfect society if right wingers, inherently failed beings, are allowed to make up fake shit about left wingers and force them to be accountable to some fake standard.

I think I got that right.
