The right freaked out about speech restrictions during the Covid pandemic, as I recall. Social media sites were blocking, or putting warning labels on outright lies about the vaccine that kept popping up. This type of speech is NOT protected by the 1st Amendment.

Categories of speech that are given lesser or no protection by the First Amendment (and therefore may be restricted) include obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, false statements of fact, and commercial speech such as advertising. Defamation that causes harm to reputation is a tort and also a category which is not protected as free speech.

It’s also fascinating to watch maga not understand youth gamer culture at all. Most of the maga here are 60+ though I think.

You know, and that’s the really sad part.

I’m just beginning to learn about the online subcultures because I was rather clueless.

And I admit that I have quite a bit to learn.

Meanwhile, many on the MAGa side of the aisle want to stick their fingers in their ears and completely ignore that entire aspect and pretend that either it doesn’t exist OR that their interpretations are infallible.
 
Everyone should be above mocking or condoning assassinations. Full stop.
Censoring what people are writing should not be condoned.
Not sure about military rules. Can someone fill us in? Is mocking an assassination unbecoming?
