Theresa May says the internet must now be regulated following London Bridge terror attack | The Independent“We cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed – yet that is precisely what the internet, and the big companies that provide internet-based services provide,” Ms May said.“We need to work with allied democratic governments to reach international agreements to regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremist and terrorism planning.”
The call was one plank in Ms May’s speech following the attack. The Prime Minister also said Britain was too tolerant of extremism and that “pluralistic” British values had to be established as superior.
Wonder if anyone mocked when listening to the mob phone calls was suggested.*FULL LEAD:[h=1]Theresa May says the internet must now be regulated following London Bridge terror attack[/h]

It makes more sense to monitor these morons as they chat it up online and zap them in the planning stages. If you are going to up government power then at least do so in a way that does some good.
One of the terrorist's neighbors said he became self radicalized by watching videos of radical islamic preachers on YouTube.
I thought YouTube was keeping tabs on offensive content, or is that Facebook ?
That means monitoring all of us.
Yep - did you really think that was not happening already? Would you rather the government simply edited the internet instead? Denying these morons access to the internet will just force them to use alternate (more secure?) communication systems which accomplishes nothing. I say take advantage of their laziness and stupidity while we can.
So you're cool with the govt looking at your Amazon purchase history because it might help catch terrorists?
And yeah, NSA surveillance capabilities are nuts (and illegal IMO).

That moment you realize this has been the ultimate goal the entire time.
Import a bunch of people from a third world foreign nation, bomb the hell out of their home countries, get attacked by new radicalized immigrants, use that as an excuse to instate a 1984 style police state.

Trump said the same thing last year. So let's hope they both don't get their way.
It's not being pushed just via the Conservatives in Britain, but right here in the States, too!*FULL LEAD:[h=1]Theresa May says the internet must now be regulated following London Bridge terror attack[/h]

That's the problem; people like May and Trump are not talking about using warrants. They're talking about accomplishing this crap through administrative or legislative actions!Yep, I have nothing to hide and never had any expectation of privacy online. If the feds think my tool purchases are suspicious then get a warrant and drop by to check them out.
Hate to admit it, but this scourge of authoritarian conservatism sweeping the world with the likes of May, Duterte, Trump, Erdoğan, etc., is becoming a worldwide threat to freedom, liberty, and democratic principles. She cut the police by 25,000, sells arms to Saudi Arabia, but the solution to attacks is to limit freedom. How Trumpish.

Let's hope this is a quickly ending phase. Macron's ascendancy may be a positive sign that at least one 1st world nation still values freedom and liberty, and is willing to assume the cost. I hope!
