There are no more troops to send to Iraq.

I'm following a Coast Guard like excercise program; I learned about it from my buddy's Helmsman manual he received in Cape May, NJ boot camp.
 
I didn't read any previous posts but can amply say: JUST GO TO YOUR NEAREST RECRUITER. And for those who have an excuse not to enlist (handicapped, old, obese, weak, afraid) start giving to the Troopies, posting on this or that Forum isn't doing nothing--I can tell you that personally. Cancel your ISP, your Cable all of your frivilous trivial expenditures and give it troops or/and families; plenty of organizations and individual soldiers you can meet online. And no, you posting and waving a flag and having a Support or Troops magnet stickers isn't what a soldiers wants--he wants sustenance not a trivial* contribution when you want and what you want to give.

*showing up at a MLB game wearing a I support GW shirt, hoping to be seen on tv--thinking its going to make a diff.
In fact we have some present soldiers on this DP forum? What's preventing you from making a great contribution for them? They don't want it? I can find you soldiers who will take it and do need it--give me a pm and remember making the Sacrifice doesn't mean you living in complete comfort like a War isn't going on--if you truly believe the Muslim Jihadists must be taken out--start living and having the mentality of the american WW2 populace. Saving money to give = no fast food, no cable, drink water not pop-coffee, no WWW, no road trips, an extra job, no bar or parties that expend money, entertainment very low costing, etc. Prove to me you truly believe in this War, and then I will take those who "support it" seriously because your lukewarmenss is actually hurting the troops. I'm for the troops--not for fake lip service keyboard popping flakes.

Amen. It is one thing to wear an "I support the troops" t-shirt that everyone can see. It is quite another to support the troops in deed. Just like religion, faith without works is dead.

My cousins husband (and his Marine buddies) get stuff from my family all the time. In fact, our last package consisted of q-tips, cookies, tissues, hard candies, soap, sun screen, and some other stuff they asked for. We sent enough for his squad. That's just it, why aren't more Americans doing this? If one truly believes that Jihadists are trying to acquire and or want to to Nuke-WMD a American city then your total focus should be on this war effort & not just living a comfortable lifestyle with plenty of spending money after your raw basic living expenses. That's why I cannot take seriously (the majority) those who say they're for the War--they give nothing and have every excuse and lame reason under the sun. Put your money where your mouth is or sign on the line.

When "5 deferments" Cheney was asked why he didnt serve, he replied "I had higher priorities". Thats the way it is with the chickenhawks. I would be a lot easier on them if they werent so eager to prosecute wars to the last drop of other peoples' blood.

The Govt is spending 66% more, that is $200 billion more each year on defense. And that does not include the costs of the wars.

Despite this massive increase in spending, troop levels have not increased one man, that I can tell.

Where the hell is all the money going? I could make a good guess.

I already served in the U.S. Army 2001-2005.
Two times in Iraq....and a Paratrooper.

So yeah, I'd say I was willing to give my life for my country.

But, I fought for our damned freedoms for a reason.
This "epic" war against Radical Islam, in my opinion, does not pose the threat that people make it out to be. Its a threat, but its not like its going to destroy America, unless America helps it destroy us (going broke on fighting it, runing what America has stood for (torture), etc. )

No.... but I don't think our solitary war against a religion of over 1.3 billion people is going to do anything but destroy us.

The common Muslims have to find a way to supress the extremists.

I used to think differently, but I believe now that what we have done in Iraq is good.... somewhat.
What we don't need to do is continue to increase troop levels
The goal was to, "As they stand up, we will stand down" right? Then if we are focusing our efforts on recruiting/training more troops... why should we have to send more? Are they "standing down" instead? If so, what does that speak of the resolve of the Iraqi people when it comes to being a free nation? As more responsibility is handed over to Iraq, more troops should leave. While at the same time, focus diplomatic efforts on keeping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

But, other than that, for the most part, Islam has to take care of itself. We can't try to FORCE them to behave, it will only increase the fundamenalist ranks and piss them off more.

They just havent read the book "War, Killing, and Mayhem, for Fun and Profit", sponsored by Raytheon. I'm sure they will get into the spirit of things, lest they be sent off for "reeducation".

It may soon come to that if we continue with our present leadership.

From time to time, we all write something that in hindsight appears pretty silly. danarhea, you just did so..."cut to ribbons" suggest a military force that is pretty much at the mercy of, and to the point of being annihilated by its enemy. Our forces in Iraq are hardly in that situation. Quite a silly and uninformed exagerration.
