Ther American Age is Done

And every time that happens, it comes back higher.
Typically yes, because it's often a specific event driving it. This is a different scenario because it is policy based and is upending the economic security that global trade's enjoyed for the past few decades. Where things go from here are a big question mark because no one is sure what the actual end game is and whether or not tariffs will now be the main weapon this administration uses to get what it wants. That's really bad for trade in general, and what investors are really nervous about is economic contraction.

People who hold leveraged stock know the risk they're taking.
Sure, but those are usually somewhat predictable risks.

The dumbasses in this country don't even have a leader and, five months later, still don't even know why the lost the election or what to do in the next one.
Well, if the GOP loses in the midterms and in 2028 as a result of whatever other idiocy Donnie Boy unleashes, maybe it can be better at knowing why it lost.
:)

No, read this.

You guys don't have an idea - not one - that you can express to do anything to improve the country except, of course, to get rid of everyone you don't like. All any of you seem to know how to do it to bash Trump who, you believe, is the root of all evil. You accept and repeat the most ridiculous lies. So it may be true, for you, that The American Age is over.

I can only suggest one thing to you, since you have nothing of your own to offer. In this world there are other countries with whatever climate you have where you live now. Obviously, you hate what this country has, so I suggest that you do as so many of your Hollywood and New York pals say they're going to do. Find someplace that's better.
The way to make America better is:

1 reverse citizenship united, getting as much money out of politics as possible
2 make gerrymandering illegal
3 push policies that revitalize the middle class and make houses and college more affordable
4 fix immigration without removing incentives to bring in the best and brightest from other countries
5 limit the size of banks

There are plenty of other things we can do. You are simply not aware of any of them due the limited information you are fed.

Ah, jaypatriot, my favorite non-Trump voting, non-Trump supporting conservative who nevertheless defends ever single action Donald Trump has ever taken with the same vociferousness a good husband defends his wife's honor. Good to see you join in.

To be clear Mr. Last's thesis is that "We cannot overstate what has just happened. It took just 71 days for Donald Trump to wreck the American economy, mortally wound NATO, and destroy the American-led world order." What has he said that you believe is wrong or hyperbolic? Do you think he should have waited another week or so to see how things shook out? Another month? A quarter?

How long should one wait to respond with utter dismay at at destructive idiocy at the highest levels of government?
It appears you enjoy absolute black and white statements like "wreck the American economy, mortally wound NATO, and destroy the American-led world order".
How has the economy been wrecked? Isn't that a little premature? Is the stock market the actual economy? Has the unemployment rate suddenly shot up? Have breadlines formed already? You don't believe writing Trump "wreck(ed) the economy" is hyperbolic?
Has NATO been suddenly dissolved?

Are you simply one of those anti-Trumpers who want to see the duly elected president fail so that your side has a chance of winning?

So why did Trump say that?
A few do.
No they don't. That's just another stupid lie.
No, but they pass laws to keep the gender conflict in a child a secret from the parents so the parents cant do their job
Bullshit. Schools don't pass laws.
That's just another stupid lie Trump told you. Obviously, he thinks you're stupid.
Fortunately, he was so far gone mentally that he couldn't run for another term. Unfortunately, they then ran a woman who couldn't string together a coherent sentence.
.
Oh look, "I know you are but what am I?"
Coherent sentence? Have you been listening? Your Dear Leader has the vocabulary of a nine year old and rambles all over the map. Calls it 'the Weave' and says English professors think it's genius. Do you believe that? Him wandering around like that is a technique?
Oh, hey! here's a good one! He said, three times, that his father was born in Germany! Why on earth would he say that? Your boy lies like a child lies- easily, often and without caring how easily the lie is to expose.
You support an idiot, one who thinks you're stupid, and your idiot President is wrecking America.

You wrote: "if the GOP loses in the midterms and in 2028 as a result of whatever other idiocy Donnie Boy unleashes, maybe it can be better at knowing why it lost."

That is the least hyperbolic statement you wrote.
Right now, public sentiment indicates the GOP can lose the House next year. That's why the elections are next year. Trump is betting the tariffs are going to show positive results for American trade by the end of this year. No one knows what's going to happen. Of course, the anti-Trump and Musk-haters know what's going to happen. They've been cheering for Trump to fail for weeks. Just like in 2017.

I am still cautiously optimistic about the economy. But you don't see me waving pom-poms in the air and wildly cheering for victory.

I guess there's no chance of you voting for him if he runs for a third term.

Not even if he sends you one of his signed Bibles?

Gawd, I hope he finagles a way to do that, and Obama opposes him!

The problem he has with the tariff fiasco is results aren't immediate, and while saying he won will appease his base, it will likely not matter as much to everyone else. As for the haters, they always exist. Surely you're not claiming the "Let's Go Brandon" crowd was cheering for Biden to succeed, right?

I am still cautiously optimistic about the economy. But you don't see me waving pom-poms in the air and wildly cheering for victory.
I'm less optimistic and mainly because there's nothing indicating things will stabilize soon. For the market to regain value there will have to be some indication things are normalizing, and since there's an unclear goal and path with these tariffs, traders are likely to continue being spooked given the increased chance of recession as prices start affecting how people consume.

I can't necessarily disagree with any of it.

This part from the article struck me as particularly true:

"Our government thinks it can simultaneously:
  • demand that Europe re-arm;
  • threaten our European allies with territorial annexation; and
  • demand that Europe buy American weapons.
We have a deeply stupid government"

Worse, none of our local MAGA have the cognitive capacity to read the above quoted text and say to themselves, "yeah, that's pretty stupid."
Trump is a criminal scumbag. He will get what he deserves and not even the MAGA terrorists will be able to prevent it.

It appears you enjoy absolute black and white statements like "wreck the American economy, mortally wound NATO, and destroy the American-led world order".
How has the economy been wrecked? Isn't that a little premature? Is the stock market the actual economy?

If anything it is understating the problem. Donald Trump with the stroke of a pen has driven up consumer costs and the cost of doing business in the United States and with the United States, with no concomitant industrial policy to restore and re-shore our manufacturing. He has also introduced complete uncertainty. No one, either consumer or producer, can make rational long-term plans under his administration because he may choose to increase tariffs at any moment. Or he could reverse the tariffs, making any firm’s investments in our industrial capacity suddenly a massive drain as they are outcompeted by foreign manufacturers.

Has the unemployment rate suddenly shot up? Have breadlines formed already? You don't believe writing Trump "wreck(ed) the economy" is hyperbolic?

President Trump did the equivalent of pushing someone off a one-hundred story building and you are quibbling about people calling him a murderer before the person’s body hit the ground.

Has NATO been suddenly dissolved?

As far as the U.S.A. is concerned it is. Our highest officials have stated without reproach, firings or any walkback that we will not come to our allies’ defense if they are attacked.

Are you simply one of those anti-Trumpers who want to see the duly elected president fail so that your side has a chance of winning?

What are you talking about? What do you mean “succeed”? Succeed at what? Succeed at sending innocent people to torture camps in El Salvador without any due process? Succeed at impoverishing the American people to enrich himself and a handful of cronies? Succeed at destroying the welfare state by gutting Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security in order to pay for tax cuts for the highest income earners in the nation? If these are things that you want him to succeed at, of course I do not want a dispostionally fascist and social Darwinist President to succeed at implementing American fascism and social Darwinism.

OK, Felis. Some of what you wrote (at the outset) is rational.
Then you launched into a political rant that reeks of conspiracy theories for which I see no hard evidence. How many innocent people have be sent to an El Salvadoran prison? How has Medicare, Medicaid, and SS been gutted? How is Trump "impoverishing the American people to enrich himself and a handful of cronies?"
Is that a financial or economic fact?

Let's just say that you and I agree we "do not want a dispostionally fascist and social Darwinist President to succeed at implementing American fascism and social Darwinism." Really, who would want that unless we were Italians and Germans in the 1920s and 1930s respectively.? And did not know what was really happening, but we were seeing it happening?
Your last paragraph simply reminds me of why I believe certain posters deserve the "Chick Little the sky is falling award".

That crowd is and was stupid for demeaning Biden. What did it accomplish?
Yes, there is an increased chance of recession.
And traders will continue to be 'spooked'. What else is new?

Gawd, I hope he finagles a way to do that, and Obama opposes him!
You're right about Obama winning an election over Trump, if it ever came to that.

That would be like thinking we saw a real fight between Rocky Marciano and Muhammed Ali back in the late 60s. It can never happen.
=================================================

In 1969, a fictional boxing match, "The Super Fight," was filmed between Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali, with the result purportedly determined by a computer simulation, and the film was released in 1970.

Here's a more detailed look at the "The Super Fight":
  • The Premise:
At the time, both Marciano and Ali were the only undefeated heavyweight champions, sparking debate among fans about who would win in a real fight.
  • The Filming:
Ali and Marciano filmed numerous rounds of sparring, creating multiple possible scenarios for a real fight, with the result claimed to be determined by a computer using probability formulas.

  • The Computer and the Result:
A computer program was used to determine the outcome, with the film claiming that Marciano would win by knockout in the 13th round.

The world missed out on a great match-up because Teofilo Stevenson was never able to go pro and fight Ali.

Um, what? He's referring to the use of ultraviolet light which is known to kill microbes on surfaces, but it is not used in this manner because when viruses make it into the body, using UV or "a very powerful light" won't work .
How do you know? Are you a microbiologist? Have you done, or even read of, any research on the subject?
You can probably see how the comical paraphrasing of this comment came about, yes?
Yes, but it has nothing to do with what he said. Someone on the left (probably a politician) claimed that Trump suggested injecting disinfectants into people, in the same way pols often take things out of context or simply lie about them. People like you picked it up and swear to the lie.
It's why you had Dr. Birx on the sidelines wondering what the heck she was doing there.
Lots of us wonder what she was doing there.

That crowd is and was stupid for demeaning Biden. What did it accomplish?
I imagine that they felt better about themselves. Doing the Brandon thing likely elicited the production of dopamine in their bodies, eliciting pleasurable feelings.

There are plenty of other things we can do. You are simply not aware of any of them due the limited information you are fed.
Not one of those was brought up in the last election or since. Ms. Harris simply suggested that price fixing be implemented. It has nothing to do with what I'm "fed," since the MSM is happy to print anything Dems are pushing. It has to do with the Dem leadership not suggesting them. But congrats for coming up with something, whether I agree with them or not.

Oh cool, it's good to see one of our local MAGA regurgitating the "price fixing" talking point that they were instructed to repeat. It's been a few weeks since that lie got some air time, so it's good to see that they rolled out @RetiredAtLast to give it more attention.

Hopefully he also can do the bit about the cats being eaten.

Nice. He didn't say "inject bleach."

"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning."

Isn't bleach a disinfectant?

So why did Trump say that?
Are you suggesting that he said it because he didn't check with me first?
No they don't. That's just another stupid lie.
Yes, a few do. (See also Dr. Northam) It's why a preventive bill was introduced and voted against by Democrats.
Bullshit. Schools don't pass laws.
Democrats, among them California's legislature, passes such laws because their owners, the Teachers' unions, tell them to.
Coherent sentence? Have you been listening? Your Dear Leader
"Yeah, but whatabout..."
You support an idiot, one who thinks you're stupid, and your idiot President is wrecking America.
I support a President who did a good job in his first term and is doing what he said hed do in his second. What he's "wrecking" is your do nothing good Party.

Did Kamala not suggest that as a way to beat inflation on groceries?

An excellent example of the talking points you were instructed to regurgitate.

Any chance you could do some DEI stuff now, or better yet, the bit about the cats being eaten?

C'mon, you must at least be good for something related to Hunter Biden, right?
