We just turned the tide, but others did more, longer. We didn’t win World War One alone.
We got our industrial strength going and provided both the British and the Russians with the tanks and airplanes that protected them from defeat in the first few years. We damn sure didn’t win the Second Chapter alone.
I won't count troops, but who do you think won the war in the Pacific? In fact until D-Day Britain had more troops fighting than we did.
It was more than 2-1/2 years that Britain was in the war before D-Day. Their war started in 1940. And they carried the burden in Africa and going up Italy. As for the rest of Europe, remember Dunkirk? After D-Day, which was in 1944, we had more, but it was two and a half years of war before that that Britain carried the burden.
To a large extent, it was our shared belief in the greatness of America. Our overt patriotism. We had a spirit that we could do anything together. Then came the divisiveness of the left, in the 60's and growing ever since. What we have to get back is a sense of common purpose. We need to relearn to divide on ideas, not personalities. Hitler was the enemy of all of us, and what he did was more than horrible. But now we hurl his name at opponents because they have different ideas. We need to get back to one America, not the bitter two we have now.So what made America Great?

No, it wasn't. It was more of, "My country is strong. Together, we can overcome anything." And, together, we did.But then as now Patriotism was defined one of two ways.
That wasn't the question. What was good was right, and we had much more of a sense of good and bad. Today, there is no good or bad, it's "What I want to do/be." Who could have imagined, in the '40's or '50's, that California would ever pass a law saying that stealing $900 worth of goods was a trivial issue? My Country right or wrong.
You're mistaken, my friend. We said then that "If it feels good, do it." It spread to the government, and the country split. From the ‘60’s on we started calling out our Country for doing the wrong thing. We started to live up to our propaganda.
I felt the BLM shouting was just as effective as shouting about Brandon.Yes it was quickly replaced with Kamabla, Kameltoe and Kamalamala. Any thoughts on some of the MAGA name calling we can look forward to in 2025? Surely MAGA has some stuff cooking for Cory Booker. And of course there is AOC who according to some MAGA is “wundumho”.
By the way, solid deflection to BLM. Any chance you could offer training on the art of deflection to @RetiredAtLast? Most of our local MAGA simply don’t have your skill and expertise when it comes to world class, effective deflections and whataboutisms. Think about how Donald would feel if he knew that you were in the trenches training the scrubs to be more capable when in combat with the leftist filth.
All of life is a risk.Your post ignores risks.
Pretends there aren't risks.
Turns a blind eye to any and all criticism of Trump. Attacks cynically all criticisms of Trump as selfish and self centered.
Cultist.
Cultism.
Transparently Fundamentalist Trumper at all times.
Yeah, you can see a lot of streets with "BRANDON" painted in 30 foot high letters all across the country.I felt the BLM shouting was just as effective as shouting about Brandon.

As a country, we didn't always do what was good. But now we seldom do.

People are often used to determine the effects/benefits of new devices, medicines. Since these were weapons of war, men of war were used to test them. But since we don't do that specific test any more, I don't know what you mean about going "back to the 1950's."We’ve gone backwards now to the 1950’s. When we blew up nuclear bombs and exposed tens of thousands of Servicemen to fallout and Radiation to see what the long term effects were. WOW what a Great Country. Imagine that. Drafted into the Military, called to serve your Country as a Lab Animal.
We joined England in Iran. What else are you referring to?As we overthrew Democratically elected Governments in favor of Military Dictatorships.
Democrats. Bull Connor, George Wallace... Were they living up to our propaganda? When we turned firehouses and dogs loose on Blacks who wanted to go to school or vote.
(Sorry. I hit the Post Reply accidentally.)When Women did what they were told.
I have to ask for a reference of some kind to your age, only because some of what you say sounds like things you've read about, or been told. Were you in school in the 1940's?Ah yes. Those were the days.
Not in this case, and mainly because the paraphrased comment was an exaggeration of an already dumb source comment. Donnie Boy's comments about injecting disinfectant were just as dumb.A lie based on something else is still a lie.

Yes, in this case. Not in this case,
He still did reference injecting disinfectant. Do you think that's more accurate than drinking bleach?Yes, in this case.
But the ideals of 50's Democrats aren't championed by Republicans. Republicans, for example, have done more for Blacks since 1862 than Democrats have ever done. Democrats, in obedience to the Teachers' unions, deny black children the best education they are capable of. Democrats, when they had any programs for the poor, simply kept them dependent on government. Republicans gained among black voters because they helped them actually improve their lives, and the voters got fed up with Dems empty promises.Now. Isn’t it interesting that the same ideals you denigrate, properly, as Democratic in the 1960’s and 1950’s, are embraced and championed by today’s Republicans? Those States all went Red didn’t they?
Interesting that you call Mengele's "experiments" the equivalent of our developing a weapon to end the killing of millions. When Germany did such things not to mention Japan it was a War Crime wasn’t it?
It was immoral and illegal. How about the Tuskegee Experiment?
Would we have dropped the bombs on German cities? But the ideals of 50's Democrats aren't championed by Republicans. Strange that Lysol had to go to all that trouble telling people not to do so. Whether or not he said those exact words, Trump’s comment on that topic and others are regularly careless and potentially harmful.Except, of course, that he never said, "inject bleach."
Lend lease supplied no more than a fraction of the tanks the Soviets used, and the domestic Soviet models were objectively better. Nor did it show up soon enough to “protect them from defeat”.We just turned the tide, but others did more, longer.

You'll need a credible cite for that one.The CIA moving Heroine into the Black Sectors of town to control the population. Later smuggling Cocaine to fund their operations. Weren’t we great
Manufacturing unions accomplished some good, such as the 40 hour week, paid vacations, etc. But unions grew to be ends in themselves (see also Jimmy Hoffa), dedicated more to personal political power and wealth than the benefit of their members. The unions had their day, but it's passed. So what about that era do you think was great? Manufacturing and the power of the Unions? Since every factory was a Union Shop. Hoping to bring back the Unions of yesteryear?
Not strange at all, after Democrats spread their lie so widely.Strange that Lysol had to go to all that trouble telling people not to do so.
Yes. without hesitating.Would we have dropped the bombs on German cities?
I take it you know absolutely nothing about the decision to use the bomb,Would we have dropped the bombs on German cities?
Would we have dropped the bombs on German cities?
Post #146I take it you know absolutely nothing about the decision to use the bomb,
This won't happen if vance succeeds trump. (Quite likely true as well for any other GOPer.)The article overstates a real but I believe ultimately temporary danger that Trump poses. Republicans will support him out of cowardice for a while. (His core supporters will never abandon him.) But Trump’s policies will a- do some serious damage to people’s lives and welfare for a while, but b- they will not last. He will leave office and whoever follows him from either party will repair the damage as best they can.
Thanks for answering the question I asked.Yes. without hesitating.
