For over a decade, environmental groups and green activists rallied against the cattle industry, citing methane emissions as a major contributor to climate change. The so-called "War on Cows" garnered widespread attention, with activists demanding a shift away from meat production, accusing cattle of playing a significant role in environmental destruction. However, a breakthrough in agricultural science has turned the tide in this ongoing debate, and many now claim that the war has come to an end, with environmental extremists on the losing side.

The argument is that cows just eat vegetables and fart....kinda like vegans.

What regulations were imposed on the raising of cattle?

I've run into exactly zero problems buying beef over the last lifetime....

What I see there is some random-ass unsourced post from a Caerish Bhim, from "Animal Planet HQ", of which I have not heard. It's full of conclusory statements. It doesn't even mention what the "war" was, beyond some unidentified number of "activists" who were "demanding a shift away from meat production".

How do you rely on this as a source, @Bum? This isn't "on the lighter side".

What bloody war? "Activists" said don't eat meat because it's inefficient to grow and then certain species fart too much methane. Did Biden say something about banning beef?

The people opposed to cows- and eating cows- are generally a small number of extremist cranks. This is true. Yet their shrieks are loud in some quarters.

🤣

Only in the right wing outrage machine quarters.

Extremist cranks:

According to an initial outline of the measure, the freshman Democrat and Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) said they “set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast.

Actually it's vegans doing most of the farting.

The article actually misses the point I think. The reason why all the research has been done into reducing methane emissions from cattle is because of all the pressure on the cow industry. The fact that we seem to be close to being able to produce beef and dairy with reduced methane production is a very good result, but driven by the pressure that the article is trying to denigrate. I am sure there are also those who just wanted the met industry stopped, but they are the extremists like we have extremists on nearly any topic you can think up.

Them winning against the cattle industry was never going to happen.

Farmers both here & in Europe weren't gonna put up with their shit or some government toady's attempts at destroying their livelihood.

Yup. Countries like China will continue to invest and surpass our technological base due to our short sightedness.

Go America. (sarcasm)

"Extremist cranks" who get lots of attention from right wing media, to induce outrage, the drug of choice of the new American right wing.

No one else pays any attention to them.

Nobody-other than the right-pays any attention to those two extremist cranks? Okay. That's good. But I have to wonder why and how they were elected then.

Your personal experience defines every matter under the sun. What you are unaware of, doesn't exist.

This article is going more in depth on the issue. I hope it works out because progress is good. A win for both sides?

I'm hoping a more humane treatment of animals is forthcoming. The animals one consumes are more than $$$ and food.
