The U.S. boycott remains strong. Why many Canadians are digging in their heels

I dunno'. I sometimes poke around on real estate sites, and a lot of this seems to be high-end outside new construction, often enough from celebrities and business moguls.

Jackson Hole has become the new Aspen.
Just do it.

I did that drive with my folks as a kid, but never as an adult. But I swear, the Tetons are some of the most beautiful places on earth. At the least, in the States.

I'm actually considering a driving vacation out there. Not a "fly & drive", but a "drive". Pack a cooler with water, lunchmeat, and sliced bread, head out on I-80, and put the pedal-to-the-metal and speed through Iowa & Nebraska. But Nebraska is so_freaking_long! It never ends!
Just do it. My wife and I have done it twice, once the northern route, the other the southern route.

My granddaughter is starting at University of Utah in the fall. We only drove through on our move from IL. to San Diego, but that was some wild driving, I'll tell you. I am looking forward to visiting her and seeing the sites. Yeah, that should be fun, you should do it, and I know what you mean about Nebraska. It never ends!

We are not the ones violating trade agreements.

Yes we are. We are the one's who violated the USMCA.

An agreement which Trump himself signed, and called "the fairest, most balanced, and beneficial trade agreement ever signed into law," and "the best agreement ever made."

That's the agreement that you want to paint as being "one-sided" and "unfair" even though you were eager to re-elect the 34 count felon and pedophile grifter who signed it.

Canada is much better off trading with China than with us. They are a much more reliable trading partner.

Thank you! I definitely will.

I had a ski-bum period during and after college, and have been to Teton Village multiple times.

What might make me pass initially though, is I'm also looking at driving out of Boston, up the New England Coast. I've yet to do that one, so the draw is strong.

North Carolina/Blue Ridge Mountains is calling, too.

(Yeah - I love driving vacations!)

Are you kidding me? That is exactly what Trump is doing. You are either incredibly misinformed or deliberately being argumentative. In either case reasoned dialog is a waste of my time.
Specifically which trade agreement that was not already being violated by the trading partner are you referring to?

Certainly:

May I quote? You didn't so I will take the liberty if you don't mind.

I'm wondering how many have read the report from January 04, 2022. Oh wait, orange man bad not in office, why would they read it? ;)

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today announced that the United States prevailed in the first dispute settlement panel proceeding ever brought under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). A USMCA panel agreed with the United States that Canada is breaching its USMCA commitments by reserving most of the in-quota quantity in its dairy tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) for the exclusive use of Canadian processors.

Here is what they are saying about today’s announcement:

Wall Street Journal: U.S. Prevails Over Canada in Dairy Dispute
“The U.S. prevailed over Canada in a long-running dispute over Canadian policies aimed at shielding its dairy industry from American competition, according to a ruling published Tuesday from the first dispute resolution panel under the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The USMCA panel ruled that Canada’s policies violated its obligations under the trade deal between the three countries, which was agreed upon in 2018 and took effect in 2020. Canada has until Feb. 3 to bring its policies into compliance, or else face possible tariffs or other countermeasures from the U.S.” [01/04/22]

Politico: U.S. claims victory over Canada in closely watched dairy trade dispute
“Ottawa violated the terms of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement by giving its own dairy industry preferential treatment under the trilateral trade pact, a dispute panel said. The decision, which was made public on Tuesday, notches another enforcement win for the Biden administration since the Trump-era agreement took effect in July 2020. U.S. trade and labor officials have previously settled two labor complaints against factories in Mexico.” [01/04/22]

Political science is beyond you. Stick to sports.
One very reliable habit or need with Canadian posters - seems to be snarky garbage like this. It's like a mandatory requirement for many Canadian posters to toss in a very similar last line in many a comment. It happens so frequently, it makes me wonder if Canadian teachers taught students to end all their writing to others with an attempt at put down snark.

Believe what you need to believe to justify your support for these stupid tariffs and the US being an untrustworthy trade partner. I understand the need for Trumpers to defend Trump no matter what.....

That sounds awesome. If you go, let us know. We took a fall colors cruise after flying into NY City to see a few sites there, a Broadway show, and of course the 9-11 memorial. That was a wonderful trip. Great weather. I loved Boston, the history could keep me there for days. Oh, and the food. To die for. Lobster! We cruised our way up into Canada. (NY, Boston, Rhode Island, Maine, New Brunswick) lol, not in this order though. I think the other town in Canada was Saint John.

Right now, we are in the very early stages of planning a family vacation, not hubby and me but the ENTIRE family for next June. Not everyone will be able to commit just yet, but our Portland family is all in after their youngest graduates from high school.

When they say Canadians are so friendly, I have to think what the hell happened to some from this forum?

You mean like that?

Didn't trump himself renegotiate the USMCA?

And now it's not good enough for him?

You can't make this kind of shit up, can you.....

Actually no.

Actually yes.

The dairy dispute over potential tariffs that were never implemented was resolved in accordance with the USMCA dispute mechanism. Canada abided by the USMCA and proved themselves yet again to be a reasonable and reliable trading partner.

We, on the other hand, did not resolve through the USMCA dispute mechanism. Instead, we tore it up and defecated on it, proving yet again that a deal with the US isn't worth the paper it is written on.

The US has thoroughly disgraced herself.

Tell us you read the above linked report without reading the above report. You could not have read it and still are saying Canada did not violate the treaty.
You are wrong.

Do some research.

Him? You mean the country, don't you?

Stop making it up then.
I don't have to do the research. YOU, on the other hand, don't seem to be aware that trump renegotiated the treaty he is now violating.

Thanks. I appreciate your encouragement.

As to Nebraska, Montana ain't much better! Longer than Nebraska, and constantly up-and-down-and-up-and-down never ending! That can get to you, too.

Driving vacations are not for everyone. But in one killer day, with another driver, I can make Cheyenne, Jacksonville, NYC, Boston, even Montreal. Two days is easier. But it can be done in one, and I've done it with 4 of the 5 above. But, it takes the right driving partner.

You really need to keep up with trade agreements. The renegotiation was from NAFTA to USMCA. USMCA has in itself not been renegotiated. And it is Canada that is violating USMCA:

This is at least the third time I have posted this link.
