That said, its just as dumb to me to make a semantics argument when the end result isn't going to change regardless of your choice of words. You probably aren't go to make much progress trying to use a flat shovel to dig a hole, so one would use a spade. Both are shovels, however, and if the point of the exercise was to simply move dirt, either would suffice. Bitching that someone said they moved dirt with a flat shovel when they actually used a spade doesn't change that they did indeed move dirt.
