Read the article. The so-called memorials being removed are not mere remembrances but rather are celebratory. Why do you want to celebrate something as despicable as slavery and white supremacy?So what? That has nothing to do with remembering the past and treating it like it was a considerable part of American history.

They just figure they can win some political points with blacks by taking down some memorials. They don't really care about the people that like the memorials and they figure they can character assassinate them if they object, which just so happens to be what is happening now. Once they character assassinate those that object their political capital on the issue only expands as they can use it to say that their action is even more justified.
