The sort of people Progressives are

Yes, people who work for the government, any government, should surrender their rights as citizens. This includes police and firefighters. That is what you are advocating.
Not quite. I'm advocating that as taxpayers, we should have the right to hire non-union labor for government jobs, and that's also what I'm advocating we do.

Not really a workable definition. Since every progressive is not a Marxist, you have failed with that label from the start. It seems more like a convenient label for someone who does not have the intellect to academically refine criticism.
Dans' is a recreational Marxist. Just read what he has to say on capitalism.

Your reasoning is no different than anyone else's. (bolded statement)
What are you going to do about it now though? Keep complaining for three and a half years over things you cannot control or change?

That's why I say, you lot should put your energy toward finding a realistic candidate who can actually beat a Trump type successor. It's not like the Democratic Party is not in need of some serious help and leadership.
I’m not sure who you think I am but finding democrat candidates is no more on my calendar than you finding candidates for the Republican Party. Also I dislike both parties.

To be a liberal its a necessary and sufficient condition to not understand economics.

Most of them are unaware of the perpetual trade deficit they run with their grocer to whom they are always paying money but never receiving any in return.
Remember the 30's company store. You had a perpetual trade deficit and the end result was the store owned you. Not the other way around.

To be a liberal its a necessary and sufficient condition to not understand economics.
Lots of successful liberal business owners.

Those who say billionaires shouldn't exist don't understand economics. Neither do those who think foreign countries pay tariffs.

Hard to tell which are more ignorant.

I voted for Jimmy Carter. He fit the above bill. A good man, an idealist with personal integrity. A one term president though because his idealism just didn't cut it. His policies, like price controls on oil and gas made shortages worse and failed to address underlying issues like stagflation. We cannot afford to elect another Jimmy Carter type for the country.
Yet Jimmy Carter bears great responsibility for the collapse of the Soviet Empire through his non-ideological human rights policy.

The conversation in the "Should Billionaires Exist" thread got me thinking about the people in my life who support far left Progressive (quasi-Marxist) policies and the sort of people they are.

Living where I do there is no shortage of Sanders/Warren/AOC and now Mandani supporters among my friends and family. While this is still anecdotal, with full confidence I can make two generalizations about these people:

1. Most are among the nicest, kindest people I know.
2. Not one of them has a clue how a market economy works, how wealth is created, what it takes to run a successful business, and they show no desire to understand any of it.

This almost willful ignorance of economic reality leaves them vulnerable to being spun by collectivist jargon.

While their cluelessness can be frustrating, I will not give up on them, for their own sake as well as mine.

Many conservatives still believe in trickle down economics. ‘Nuff said. That’s like still believing in flat earth, autism- causing vaccines, and cancer- causing winter turbines.

Oh wait… 🤭👍

That's a joke. We know exactly how it works. The wealthiest individuals taking advantage of others. It's why wealth inequality is at an all time high and more billionaires exist now then ever.

The Republican's new 'Big Beautiful Bill' literally was a transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich.

The Republican thugs fool enlightened people like yourself into thinking the rich are these super human gifts to society. When reality is they play by a different set of rules than you or I. And they continually underpay their workers, slash benefits, and make life a living hell for people around them. They are narcissists and only care about their pocket book.

You don't have a clue.

No, the cruel joke is that you've been taught poor people are poor because rich people are rich. It doesn't work that way.

That's how it works when they don't pay their workers a fair wage. And yet their company continues to grow and their net worth continues to climb. These people are motivated by one thing greed.

Evasion. I am not interested in Dans. What do YOU mean when you use the phrase?
Of course it is likely you are unable to define or understand the phrases you use as dog whistles. If so, don't bother to define it.

People who feel that way need to stop whining and begin thinking about how they can develop skills that employers value more.

Want a higher wage? Go out an earn it.

I am a liberal, and I would put my understanding of economics up against yours anytime.

You are coming from the supposedly "fiscal conservative" party that still believes in trickle-down economics and austerity. That's not a good start.

I have already answered that question: Marxist propaganda. It comes in many forms, but it typically rests on a fallacy that the poor are poor because the rich are rich, i.e., that wealth is a zero sum game and that, somehow, the likes of Gates and Bezos have somehow stolen your money.

Such propaganda also rests on the mistaken belief that property rights are somehow unrelated to human rights.

"market economy" is the euphemism for Laissez-faire capitalism that embraces (ignorantly) the economic ideas that include:
1. trickle down economics
2. deregulation
3. import tariffs are only paid by importers
4. minimum wages hurt the opportunities for children to work
5. industry is concerned inherently with worker welfare and safety

Fine, if the laborers don’t want a union.
