the situation of the Christians in Nigeria

do you remember Biafra?

i do …

who else can remember that misery?

Aw, Christians killing people. Things haven't changed that much.

The LGBTQ+ community are the real children of Jesus in Africa.

you are mistaken

please ask google who the killers are in Nigeria

The conflicts in Nigeria are tribal not religious.

Christians in Lagos aren't persecuted. There are probably more Christians than any other religion in Lagos.

It is both …..

No, it's tribal. It is rural/urban to some extent.

Muslims in Lagos are not persecuting Christians. It is regional conflict.

There are several Christian billionaires in Nigeria. That doesn't happen in countries that persecute Christians. There aren't any Christian billionaires from Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

There aren't though.

The issues aren't religious. The solutions have nothing to do with religion.

We really need to stop trying to turn conflicts into religious wars.

The northern part of Nigeria needs infrastructure. They need to see the life people in the cities live. A generation of that and the problem is gone.

Nigeria is part 3rd world and part 1st world, that is the nature of the current conflict.

They've worked together on this travesty of injustice.

Could you throw a link for this, @Rumpel doesn't have that ability.
I'm guessing this is a different topic then I assumed.

Nigeria has had Christian presidents. Goodluck Jonathan was pretty recent.

I don't know if a specific thing caused Rumpel to post this thread.

Nigeria has problems with rebel groups, is all this amounts to.

Boko Haram is a Islamic terrorist group that operates mainly in Northern Nigeria and they occasionally attack people, many happen to be Christians. Boko Haram initially started attacking other Muslims in Nigeria, because the tribes they were competing with happened to be Shia Muslims. They've also attacked Christians, and people who aren't religious, or whose religion wasn't known.

Boko Haram became famous when they kidnapped a bunch of girls at a school, and spawned the "Bring back our Girls" meme about 10 years ago.

They have do it again quite a few times since, but we haven't paid as much attention.

you are right … this is a sad story.

they hardly make headlines

we should not forget them
Penguins in the South Pole rarely make headlines...

Please everybody, put them in your thoughts.

The Muslim President of Nigeria seems to agree with Rumpel that Boko Haram is a problem.

Vice President Kashim Shettima says that President Bola Tinubu has made security his top priority and is determined to end insecurity.

Shettima made the remark while noting that Nigeria has been under the threat of Boko Haram for too long.

The Vice President spoke yesterday in Abuja at the launch of two books written by former Nigerian ambassador to Russia, Professor Abdullahi Shehu.

The books are titled: “Boko Haram and Other Security Challenges in Nigeria: Issues and Options for Policy” and Reflections on the 2023 General Elections: Lessons Learned and the Future of Democracy in Nigeria.”

President Bola Tinubu has stressed the necessity for Africa to take a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism, not only through might, but by addressing the root causes of the scourge, including poverty, inequality, and social injustice.

Speaking at the African High-level Meeting on Counter-Terrorism in Abuja on Monday, he also called for the establishment of a regional counter-terrorism centre that will serve as a hub for intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and capacity building throughout Africa.

The Muslim population in Nigeria is even worse. Nigeria is one of the most dangerous place in the world. There are quite a few Nigerians in my church congregation who confirm the sad situation.

In Africa’s most populous country, more believers are killed for their faith each year than everywhere else in the world combined. Violence remains the most dangerous and prevalent threat. Christians in Nigeria, particularly in the Muslim-majority north, continue to live under immense pressure from Islamic militants and armed “bandits.” The brutal attacks can involve destruction of properties, abductions for ransom, sexual violence and death. Believers are stripped of their livelihoods and driven from their homes, leaving a trail of grief and trauma.

Seems humans will use any excuse, religion is a great one. Very sad indeed!
