It is both …..
l know the situation since decadesNo, it's tribal. It is rural/urban to some extent.
Muslims in Lagos are not persecuting Christians. It is regional conflict.
There are several Christian billionaires in Nigeria. That doesn't happen in countries that persecute Christians. There aren't any Christian billionaires from Saudi Arabia or Qatar.
l know the situation since decades
followed the events closely in 1968 and 1969
yes, it is a tribal conflict
but it also has religious aspects

The issues aren't religious. The solutions have nothing to do with religion.
We really need to stop trying to turn conflicts into religious wars.

Vice President Kashim Shettima says that President Bola Tinubu has made security his top priority and is determined to end insecurity.
Shettima made the remark while noting that Nigeria has been under the threat of Boko Haram for too long.
The Vice President spoke yesterday in Abuja at the launch of two books written by former Nigerian ambassador to Russia, Professor Abdullahi Shehu.
The books are titled: “Boko Haram and Other Security Challenges in Nigeria: Issues and Options for Policy” and Reflections on the 2023 General Elections: Lessons Learned and the Future of Democracy in Nigeria.”
President Bola Tinubu has stressed the necessity for Africa to take a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism, not only through might, but by addressing the root causes of the scourge, including poverty, inequality, and social injustice.
Speaking at the African High-level Meeting on Counter-Terrorism in Abuja on Monday, he also called for the establishment of a regional counter-terrorism centre that will serve as a hub for intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and capacity building throughout Africa.

you seem to be well informed! The Muslim population in Nigeria is even worse. Nigeria is one of the most dangerous place in the world. There are quite a few Nigerians in my church congregation who confirm the sad situation.
In Africa’s most populous country, more believers are killed for their faith each year than everywhere else in the world combined. Violence remains the most dangerous and prevalent threat. Christians in Nigeria, particularly in the Muslim-majority north, continue to live under immense pressure from Islamic militants and armed “bandits.” The brutal attacks can involve destruction of properties, abductions for ransom, sexual violence and death. Believers are stripped of their livelihoods and driven from their homes, leaving a trail of grief and trauma.![]()
