Ernst Röhm returns after having been hanging out in Bolivia for a few years. Hitler immediately puts him in charge of the SA, with the task to reform and strengthen the SA. Hitler also gives a rare interview to a Jewish journalist (that traps him in a Beer Hall in Berlin), and Hitler promises that he doesn't want to hurt the Jews, just stop Jews from minxing with Germans and trying to take over the country. He also calls the government Jewish, without presenting any proof to that claim.

Hitler writes that he is the new Bismark and will bring back Bismark's Reich. The Communist and the Nazis both walk out of the Reichstag to make sure the Reichstag doesn't have enough people present to function, however it backfires, and instead they decided to go for full obstructionism, and demand a separate roll call vote for every single issue on the budget. There is another walkout, and this time some other German nationalists leaves too. So Nazis and Commies that hate each other more than anything cooperate to make sure the Reichstag does not function. However their walkout had the opposite effect, there was just enough people left in the Reichstag to function and the Reichstag now passes the law and budget unanimously. The Nazis proclaim they will now boycott the Reichstag. Several Nazi newspapers are temporarily banned in Germany and also in Czechoslovakia, which makes the Nazis blame the Czechoslovaks of being the real cultprit. Communist newspapers get the same treatment and KPD calls it a Capitalis Conspiracy. Meanwhile Röhm is centralizing the SA, appointing all SA leadership himself. Röhm is creating SA more like an army, a tool to bring the nationalist revolution.

It's false to think WW1 inevitably led to the Nazis and WW2. Just as much was about how Germany developed in the inter-war years, and just unwillingness to create a democratic front against the anti- democratic parties: NSDAP, DNVP and KPD. On the contrary the bourgeois saw cooperation with the clearly authoritarian minded DNVP as better than with SPD, and later they saw handing the power over to the Nazis as a better alternative than to work with SPD.

Hitler is vowing that he will never get rid of the SA. Meanwhile Hindenburg seem to be doing Hitler's work for him, by limiting civil rights. Now any meeting has to be announced and approved by the police in advance. The Communists are furious. The Nazis are also not happy, but they will be later when they will use this. The Reichstag is adjourned into October, which means the Reichstag will have no power and the government can rule by decree. How did this happen? Well remember last month how the Nazis walked out and started to boucot the Reichstag. A simple majority would have been needed to overturn this, so if the Nazis had been there, this plan would not have worked.

But there is something else going on. Is that an Anschluss in the air? Are the Austrians and Germans plotting to unify? At least the French think so and they are not happy. A planned customs union between Germany and Austria is seen by the French as the first step towards a political union. Briand is fuming so much Paris becomes filled with smoke.

In Thuringia the coalition government led by DVP that included the Nazis collapsed because the Nazis were on the federal level insulting DVP, which DVP could not ignore on the local level anymore.
