The right wing is perhaps well described as 'an agenda of oligarchic corruption that uses bigotry to get populist support'. That's not a good basis for 'jokes'. Jokes, as many comedians show, are much better used to expose that.

Let's go back for a moment to the progress the country made with the civil rights movement. By the 1970's, it was 'not ok' to say racist things directly anymore. The right wing responded with a national flood of 'jokes' - books filled with racist 'humor' generally of racial hate. They sometimes tried to 'attack everyone' to try to claim it wasn't aimed at a group, "Polack jokes" were a favorite for that. Misogyny was hidden as "blonde jokes".

From time to time, seeing 'liberal' comedy shows very popular, the right wing has tried to make a 'counter' show, and it's bombed horribly when they do. Ironically, arguably the best efforts at comedy against the left is when SNL tries to be balanced.

Another way they're incompetent at it is how they scapegoat 'jokes' when they say something that gets them in trouble - how many times has trump said something idiotic he was attacked for, when he clearly wasn't joking, where he lied he'd been joking?

Add one to the list. In recent days, a right-wing commentator as a guest on CNN responded to Mehdi Hassan saying he supports Palestinians, by saying he hoped Hassan's pager doesn't go off. CNN banned him from the network. He then commented that if you tell a joke, you aren't allowed on CNN.

They're criminally incompetent at 'jokes', but it's worse than that - like someone who intentionally shoots someone claiming they hadn't meant to, they're incompetent at aiming. Stephen Colbert said facts have a liberal bias - I'd add jokes have the same bias.

Were you laughing when the Harris comedian called all Mexicans “thieves?”

It's okay for Mexicans and Indians and Blacks to joke about their own culture. It's called self deprecation.
It's not okay when a white guy jokes about Latino sex acts and blacks carving watermelon. That's racism.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Ah so we’re back to the progressive abomination that non-whites can’t be racist swines. It’s not the words, it’s the skin tone of the person uttering them. So because George Lopez is a fat, pockmarked, old man of Mexican decent - born and raised in the U.S. and who’s only experience of life in Mexico are his tourist resort standups - he can tell racist jokes without being a racist. Right?

So, you're saying that Lopez is a racist because he made a joke about his own culture. And you've ignored what the white guy said at Trump's rally.

OY.

I’m pointing out to you that words are racist regardless of the color of the person uttering. To whit, George Lopez was born and raised in America. He has never lived in Mexico let alone immersed himself in Mexican culture. He’s what the Mexicans call a “pocho.” But here you are operating under the racist assumption that because his last name is Lopez he’s a Mexican and as such entitled to make racist jokes about Mexicans.

You don’t care about the words of the comedian at the Trump rally. The only thing you care about is that he’s white.

Can you walk us through the steps of you odd inference here?

Instead of thinking like, 'No one can talk shit about my family and friends but me," you decided that the issue is a tangential bug up your butt.

How did you get there?

It’s not the words, it’s the skin tone of the person uttering them.
LOL

skin tone is the only bit of context you are able to see?

if so that would explain your confusion

So because George Lopez is a fat, pockmarked, old man of Mexican decent - born and raised in the U.S. and who’s only experience of life in Mexico are his tourist resort standups - he can tell racist jokes without being a racist. Right?
that is more of your odd inferences

I love that you don't see the irony of a white guy defining what makes a "real" Mexican. Sheesh.

iirc,

Blazing Saddles slams racists & bigots pretty ****ing hard

and therefore may not be the best support for what you may be trying to imply

The claim was "By the 1970's, it was 'not ok' to say racist things directly anymore."

And a movie making fun of people who say racist things is somehow an indication that it was okay to say racist things?

Can you clarify?

They said racist things, and it was ok to say them.

That up yours joke would not be ok to say today.

Correct. They don't know:
- what is and what is not a joke
- the meaning of self-deprecation as a comedic tactic

and so so much more about just about everything

They said racist things, and it was ok to say them.
LOL

Movies which vilify, demean, and disparage racists are an indicator that saying racist things is okay?

In your imagination, are the movies which vilify, demean, and disparage kiddie-diddlers are an indicator that kiddie-diddling is okay?

That up yours joke would not be ok to say today.

make-believe bullshit

there are still shows making fun of racists

still plenty of shows with the n-word in it

Extremists of any variety are not funny. At least not intentionally funny.

Imagine trying to film Blazing Saddles today. The progs and the MAGA freaks would both want to kill you, the MAGAs because they're being made fun of and the progs because they don't get the joke.

Saying Blazing Saddles is pro-right wing is like saying "The Little Dictator" is pro-Fascist or "Dr. Strangelove" is pro-war.

The person with the sexist username says:

Seeing the name you are talking about, I wouldn't call it sexist necessarily, but clueless. Otherwise, "Biden is a bad president" is clueless, while "Harris is a bad president" is sexist. "Harris is a bad president because she's a woman" is sexist.
