The right wing is perhaps well described as 'an agenda of oligarchic corruption that uses bigotry to get populist support'. That's not a good basis for 'jokes'. Jokes, as many comedians show, are much better used to expose that.
Let's go back for a moment to the progress the country made with the civil rights movement. By the 1970's, it was 'not ok' to say racist things directly anymore. The right wing responded with a national flood of 'jokes' - books filled with racist 'humor' generally of racial hate. They sometimes tried to 'attack everyone' to try to claim it wasn't aimed at a group, "Polack jokes" were a favorite for that. Misogyny was hidden as "blonde jokes".
From time to time, seeing 'liberal' comedy shows very popular, the right wing has tried to make a 'counter' show, and it's bombed horribly when they do. Ironically, arguably the best efforts at comedy against the left is when SNL tries to be balanced.
Another way they're incompetent at it is how they scapegoat 'jokes' when they say something that gets them in trouble - how many times has trump said something idiotic he was attacked for, when he clearly wasn't joking, where he lied he'd been joking?
Add one to the list. In recent days, a right-wing commentator as a guest on CNN responded to Mehdi Hassan saying he supports Palestinians, by saying he hoped Hassan's pager doesn't go off. CNN banned him from the network. He then commented that if you tell a joke, you aren't allowed on CNN.
They're criminally incompetent at 'jokes', but it's worse than that - like someone who intentionally shoots someone claiming they hadn't meant to, they're incompetent at aiming. Stephen Colbert said facts have a liberal bias - I'd add jokes have the same bias.
