The Republican Search for Self Better Find Something Quickly

Low taxes is always a populist sell; though without slashing spending its given us no $10+ trillion in debt.

Maybe the Republicans can come up with something fresh that doesn't involve bankrupting the nation.

Maybe the Democrats can do the same. Given that they just elected Obama, that's clearly unlikely.

See, two can play your silly little game.

Low taxes ain't a populist sale. Low taxes is a conservative political principle to reduce government confiscation of our labor and limit government intrusion.

Now, higher taxes, otoh, that is a populist sale given that they always target those evil rich people who are rich not because of their own labor but because they're not taxed enough to provide more government bennies to you.

You play silly games all the time, I agree.

Sure it is. It's why Obama structured a tax cut for most, which IMO is wrong when there is a $10 trillion debt he's inhereted.

Now, higher taxes, otoh, that is a populist sale given that they always target those evil rich people who are rich not because of their own labor but because they're not taxed enough to provide more government bennies to you.

What government benefits do I get? Just talking out your ass again.

Damn, you are dense.

First, you don't get sarcasm or, you do, but choose to treat it otherwise.

Second, your comment about Obama's tax plan ain't a convincing argument that low taxes is a populist pitch.

Lastly, I wasn't saying that you, specifically, receive benefits. The "you" was a general reference to people generally that Democrats pitch their high taxes on the rich sale to.

Take a break.

I see, in a post responding directly to mine, you're use of the word "you" was not directed to the person to whom you were addressing (me) as is the explicit meaning of the pronoun "you", but meant a general reference to people generally.

And I'm dense for not seeing that. Got it.

Except that government does that any ways independent of the tax rates. Low taxes with low spending is conservative. Low taxes with high spending is not conservative. That's what's been practiced by both parties for decades. At least the Democrats tried to balance outflows with inflows rather then borrowing tomorrow to pay for today.

It is ethically and morally bankrupt to pass debts to our children because we are too cowardly to deal with them ourselves.

Now, higher taxes, otoh, that is a populist sale given that they always target those evil rich people who are rich not because of their own labor but because they're not taxed enough to provide more government bennies to you.

LOL. So raising taxes to pay off the debt to place our government on solid financial footing is what you say higher taxes is?

Care to explain how mortgaging the future to pay for today is a populist sale?

"We're going to sadle your kids, grandkids and great grandkids with trillions in debt!"

Its not what the republicans need to find, its what the republicans need to throw out. And its not the social-conservativism that I'm talking about.

It's ironic that Jmak is acting this way in a thread about the Republican search for self.

Just revel in it folks.

Republicans can find what they lost pretty easily. All they have to do is listen to the ghost of Barry Goldwater. Some Conservatives already have - Ron Paul, for instance.
