Republicans are gambling that policies don't matter; that they can hold power through the power of money to manipulate public opinion (and other measures such as voter suppression). That they can spit in a voter's face, but count on their political machine including Fox to tell the voter it's raining. That they can get the votes regardless of the policies.

They give trillions more to the oligarchs and take it from the American people, and the oligarchs give back billions for the political operations which convince voters to blame Democrats (and immigrants and whatever).

That's a big gamble, they used to have to show some restraint about the policies to try to keep up a story, while lying. They're counting even more on the money now with this radical bill.

Unfortunately, as much as we'd not like that to work, the evidence seems to say it might well work. The fact we have a Republican government including trump elected speaks to that. The delusional level of views of Republican voters shows it as well. There's no reason to think it won't continue to be possible, especially when they add in total lawlessness to try to keep power, as they did in 2020 with only Mike Pence preventing it.

One basic rule for them has been, after elections do the terrible things, the tax cuts for the rich, the cuts. By the next election, they can whip up hysteria about immigrant caravans and egg prices and whatever and get elected. That's what we're seeing now, the 'bad policy after the election' part.

Pretty much. You don't pass this kind of bill unless you believe people that are hurt wont punish you. It's a party who has overwhelming majority in rural areas to make up for their large losses in the city.

Large rural states are also a big reason they are so strongly positioned in the Senate.
